Stewart returned home Monday from Winston-Salem where they attended the funeral of Mrs. Stewart's mother, Mrs. Goodchild. The Rev. Goodchild accompanied thorn home for several days. Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Barbour, Jr., took her daughter, Dale, to Dr. Sidbury's hospital in Wilmington for observation this week. Mrs. Lockwood Phillips and Miss Ruth Peeling attended the foot ball game at Raleigh last week end. Benefit Bridge lo Be Held At Civic Center Tonight Mrs. Marian Ryan is In charge of the benefit bridge being held to night at the Civic Center at 8 o'clock by the Carteret County Bu siness and Professional Women's CluB. Tickets for the benefit may be purchased at the door tonight or from members of the club today. Proceeds will be used to purchase an air-conditioned oxygen tent for the Morehead City Hospital. Mrs. Elsie Hunt is in charge of tickets in Beaufort and Mrs. Ladi gole Lindsay in Morehead City. City Finds Crime Doesn't Pay ELDORADO, 111. - (AP) Ex perimentally, the qity ,of ,Eldpradq fixed a five cent fine, oo each motorist who either failed to de posit ft nlqkcl jn their parking meters or upon overtime violators. The violators were even permitted to pay the nickel fine in any handy meter and not be haled to the city hall. Revenue fell off one-third during the two-week trial. So the city council voted to get tough with violators and fine 'em two bits. The nation's shortest river is the "D." It flows 400 feet from Devils Lake into the Pacific ocean along the Oregon coast. Winfrey Davis, pastor of the First Baptist church, Beaufort, was told Sunday after young people con ducted all services for "Youth Day." The performance of the young people under the pastor's direc tion. Grayden Paul felt, was p more convincing sermon than any preached from the pulpit. Many other members expressed similar approval. The young people, most of them teen-agers, settled all anxieties that the pastor hd had about the fact that the polio ban prevented the holding of "Youth Day" earlier when college youth could have par lieipnted. They carried off the Sunday school, morning worship, Training Union and evening wor ship services in a highly profes sional manner. Osborne Davis presided at the morning worship hour. There were four speakers at the worship hour: Iris Davis, "What Is That in Thine Hand?"; Carl Chadwick, "Using the Unused;" Mary F. Mason, "Willingness, the Supreme Talent;" and Julian Aus tin, "Our Best for the Master." Dowd Davis was the organist for the morning and evening worship programs, and Peggie Guthrie led a youth choir In the morning. The evening service featured a program with the aid of slides. Hymn singing was held with words and music flashed on the screen, and afterwards familiar paintings were portrayed on the screen while devotionals were given. The devotionals included the following: "Mother's. Hands," Sar ah Mason; "The Divine Visitor," Vera Lou Loftin; "Can We Count on You?" Connie Lewis; and "What Will You Do With Jesus?" Peggy Hamilton.
