There arc still four open dates
fur the public deer hunt sponsor
ed by the N. C. Division of For
estry, Department of Conservation
and Development, to be held at
the Bladen Lakes Slate Forest.
Bladen county, according to an an
nouncement by Fred Claridee, as
sistant state forester. There is
room for one group of 30 hunters
on Nov. 19; for two groups on Nov.
25; for two groups on Dec. 3, and
for two groups on Dec. 10.
' These hunts, designed t) n'.iow
the public how a State Forest can
be used in many different ways,
are limited to two groups of hunt
ers with dogs each day. No per
son can enter more than one hunt
during the season. The cost is $5
per person, but each application
must cover an entire group of 30
persons. Individual applicants
will not be considered. Further
information can be had by writ
ing the State Forester, N. C. Dept.
of Conservation and Development,

BERN, Switzerland (AP) -The
Swiss Alps have claimed ap
proximately 40 lives during the
current mountaineering season.
The season begins in May and ends
in mid-September, depending on
weather conditions. ,
The victims ranged all the way
from rank novices who plunged to
their deaths when they were lured
to a perilous spot by the sight of
an edelweiss, to hard-bitten moun
taineers who were surprised by
bad weather or hit by stones which
