Morehead City Travels to Maysville Tonight DICKIE DARE One Problem Solved TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 1948 With hopes for more competi tion than they received in games Friday night against Maysville Pcllocksville, Morehead City bas ketball teams will travel to Pol locksville tonight and hand out some more of what it took to pile up a 39-14 score in the girls' game and 69-23 in the boys'. This was the locals' second win in as many starts this season. The' girls play ed an ' excellent game with the scoring divided between three play ers Elsie Willis with 15, Nancy Derrickson with 12 and Pattie Jean Bell with 12. For Maysville the high scorer:; were Gerock, No. 13, with 7 and Trott, No. 7, with 6. 1 might add that all of Morehead's 39 points were field goals with the excep tion of one foul shot made by El sie Willis. Quarter scores were 12-1, 20-2, 34-5, 39-14. The boys played a fast and fur ious game and came out the win ner by a score of 69-23. The sec ond string was substituted in the second and fourth quarters. Berl Lewis, playing for Cordova who was injured last Tuesday night, was high scorer with 15 points. , Buck Matthews followed close behind with 14. The rest of the score was made as follows: Ray Lewis 12, Feagle (Feagle's name was incorrectly spelled Teagle in Fridays issue) 11, "Struggle" Steed 5, Bobby Matthews 4, Bobby Bell 2, Mickey Woolard 2, Charles Macy 2, Larry Woolard 1, Tommy Bennett 1. High for Maysville was Rouse with 9. Quarter scores were 19 4, 35 9, 56-11, 69-23. Diamonds of one carat or less are more valuable than rubies or emeralds of the same size. 2t. Starting lineup for the boys was Jim Finer who during the evening scored 5 point, Charles Stuart, high scorer with 9 points, A. C. Blankcnship, 0, Alton Willis 2, and Howard Fodrie, 0. John Biancaniello Named Oulslanding Box er at Savannah CHERRY POINT The Cherry Point Marine Corps Air station boxing team's Tfc. John Biancaniel lo walked off with the W. D. Me Millan trophy, presented to the outstanding individual boxer at the Southeastern Amateur Tournament of Champions, held in Municipal auditorium, Savannah, Ga., Mon day and Tuesday. Biancaniello won the award by besting John Craven of the Wash ington Light Infantry club. Char leston, S. C, and runner-up Joe Martin of the Jacksonville Naval Air. station, who represented the Jacksonville Journal. Both bouts were decisions. Fighting in the lightweight class, Giancaniello combined clever box ing artistry with adroit legwork to receive the judges' votes as the outstanding amateur boxer in the Southeastern U. S.
