Hyde Mrs. F. E. Hyde entertained at bridge Thursday night with Mrs. Julius Duncan as guest. A ham dinner was served at 6:30 with lemon pie as dessert. Four progressions were played with Miss Lena Duncan and Miss Lessie Ar rington winning high and consola tion prizes, respectively. Both were presented with Christmas doilies. About the house were arrange ments of roses and paperwhites. Beaufort Junior Woman's club will sponsor a bazaar all day Sat urday, Dec. 4, Mrs. Albert Chap pell of the Junior Woman's club has announced. The bazaar will open at 9 and close at 9 and Is tentatively sche duled to be held in the educa tional building of Ann Street Me thodist church. On sale will be needlework, homemade cakes, nies, and candy. Bridge Club Meets With Mrs. Charles Davis The Friday night bridge club met with Mrs. Charles Davis at her home in Highland Park with Mrs. Pearl McQuaid as a guest. .Bridge was piayed at two tables after which the hostess served fruit cake with coffee. OBITUARIES Ira May Hardy Dr. Ira May Hardy, 74, dean of Kinston physicians, founder of the Caswell Training School, and father of Jessie E. Hardy, of More head City, ended his life with a pistol at his home in Kinston Sun day at 4:30 p.m. He had been ill for two years. Coroner R. T. Jarman said a l in quest would be unnecessary. Hardy had been active in medi cal, civic and church societies and had an active part in the public welfare of Kinston. He was a mem ber of the state Senate in 1930-31. Funeral services will be held in St. Mary's Episcopal church this afternoon with interment in the Oakdale cemetery at Washington. Surviving arc two daughters. Herrington Celebrate Golden Wedding Mr. and Mrs. Charles Elbridge Herrington, of Newport, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Saturday afternoon, November sixth, when they held open housv between 2 and 5 o'clock at their home in Newport. The guests entered the hall where they were greeted by Miss Emily Young and Mis. W. J. Kirby, then were registered by Mrs. 11. A. Parlette. Alter being received in the living room by the ho wed couple, the guests were directed to the dining room where they were served refreshments consisting of wedding cake, nuts, mints and punch. About one hundred guests were present during the afternoon to offer coigratulalions to the couple. Arrangements of yellow and white fall flowers were used throughout the house. The same colors were displayed in the use of candles and other decorations. In the dining room the table was cov ered with a hand-crocheted white lablecloth. the centerpiece being a bowl of lovely white chrysanthe mums flanked by candlclabra hold ing lighted yellow candles. From one end of the table Miss Nina Garner served the three-tiered wedding cake. At the serving table Mrs. Carl Herrington presided over the punch bowl. Lee, of Craven Street, fell Friday morning on a waxed kitchen floor and broke her left arm just above the wrist. She was taken to the hospital to have it set and is now convalescing at her home. WEEKLY VISIT ABOUT THE BASE Fire Chief's Convention Big Success According to Fire Chief Albert Jowdy and Firefighter Gerald Mer rill, the International Fire Chief's Association convention, in Miami, Florida, was a complete success! When these two men reported back for duly they had not words enough to tell of the wonderful and beneficial time they had. One of the most outstanding person ages present was Admiral J. E. Maher, Officer-in-Charge of Shore Installations for the entire U. S. Navy. His subject was developing of fire protection. H. Holland of Kenansville. Duplin county farmer who has sold $1,820 worth of finished pigs from two sows in the past 12 months. According to L. F. Weeks, coun ty agent for the State College Ex tension Service, Mr. Holland grows his own hog feed except fr a small amount of protein supple ment. He says that the labor re quirement for growing this feed and feeding it to the hogs is dis tributed evenly throughout the year instead of being concentra ted in one short period as in the case of tobacco or other crops. On the Holland farm year-round grazing is produced not only for hogs but also for work stock, poul try, and cattle. Mr. Holland's choice Hampshire sow has produced nine litters ave raging 12 pigs each, or a total of 108 pig! in four and a half years. Tanker Docks The Esso tanker Patterson from Baytown.
