attacks this summer, is recupera

New York following an operation
in which his left foot was removed.

Mrs. Raymond Crum, of Jack
sonville, Illinois, arrived Wednes
day to spend some time with her
mother, Mrs. Howard Wade.
on November 25 at 4 o'clock In
the afternoon. The service was per
formed by the Reverend M. L. Sim
mons, pastor of the Primitive Bap
tist Church of Newport.
Vows were spoken before an im
provised altar of white flowers and
glowing tapers in seven branch
candelabra.
The bride wore a tailored suit
of gray gabardine with black ac
cessories and a purple orchid
shoulder corsage.
Following the ceremony the
bride's parents entertained with a
reception in honor of the bridal
couple. After the first slice of wed
ding cake had been cut by the
couple Mrs. R. D. Garner served
the cake and punch was poured by
Mrs. J. V. Hatfield.
Immediately after the reception
the couple left for a short wedding
trip to unannounced points and

ments in Morehead City.
Mrs. Lewis is a graduate of the
Newport High School and attended
Woman's College of the University
of North Carolina. She is a gradu
ate of the Hardbarger Business
College in Raleigh and at the time
of her marriage was employed at
the Marine Corps Air Station at
Cherry Point.
Mr. Lewis attended the More
head City High School and served
three years with the United States
Army with two and one-half years
overseas.

Covers were set at three tables
in the living room and a delicious
luncheon of molded tuna salad,
cranberry sauce, creamed peas in
pastry shells, hot buttered rolls,
fruit cake with whipped cream
and coffee was served buffet style
from the dining table. Mrs. M. T.
Mills assisted the hostess in serv
ing from the table which was cen
tered with a lovely white floral
arrangement. Each of the bridge
tables was decorated with a white
candle in a silver candlestick tied
with ribbon and fern. White
flowers with greenery and glowing
tapers were used elsewhere
throughout the house.
At the conclusion of the lunch
eon bridge was played with Mrs.
Frank Exum winning floral prints
for high and Mrs. Walter Morris,
an Italian pottery candle and flow
er holder for second high. Mrs.
Marion Mills received English im
ported napkins for low score.
Mrs. Robert Freeman Has
Bridge Club Tuesday Night
Mrs. Robert Freeman was host
ess to her bridge club on Tuesday
evening at her apartment on
Bridges Street.
Guests were Mrs. Kenneth Wag
ner and Mrs. Jim Bob Sanders.
Arrangements of yaupon and ivy
were used throughout the home
for decorations.
High score for club went to Mrs.
Bob Williams while Miss Coretta
Thompson was second high. A
rhinestone pin was presented to
Mrs. Sanders for guest high.
During play chee-wes with
cokes were enjoyed and at the con
clusion of the game the hostess
served lemon bisque.

Si. Paul's Auxiliary Has
Program On China Monday
The Woman's Auxiliary of SI.
Paul's Episcopal Church met Mon
day afternoon at 3 o'clock in the
Civic Center with Mrs. E. A. Coun
cil as hostess.
Mrs. J. M. Morrill, president,
presided over the meeting and dur
ing the business session contribu
tions were authorized for Christ
mas work in the parish and Thomp
son orphanage. Final reports for
the year were turned in by vari
ous chairmen, and a committee
was appointed to nomi te officers
for 1949. Arrangements were made
for the Auxiliary's Christmas party
in Beaufort on Dec. 13.
Mrs. William Martin, educational
program chairman, then introduced
Mrs. 0. H. Johnson who gave the
first of a series of three studies
on China. An open discussion fol
lowed. Mrs. Council served iced layer
fruit cake and hot tea during the
social hour.
Mr. and Mrs. Ethan Davis were
hosts to the Couples bridge club
at their home on Bridges Street
Wednesday evening.
Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Lionel
Smith and Mrs. Fred Willis.
Mr. John Willis received a coca
cola aprons for ladies high while
Mr. Willis received shaving lotion
for men's high. Mr. Jarvis Herring
won the floating prize, a bon bon
dish, and Mrs. Lionel Smith re
ceived a mint dish for guest high.
During the first progression
cokes and mints were served and
at the conclusion of the game
everyone enjoyed fruit cake topped
withwhipped cream and coffee.
Each plate was adorned with a
miniature holiday corsage while
white narcissi with fern were used
to decorate the living room.

of Beaufort; was admitted and dis
charged Wednesday.
Mr. G. D. Henderson, of New
port, was discharged Wednesday
following an operation.
Mrs. Ida Modlin, of Beaufort,
was 'admitted to the hospital Wednesday.
Mrs. Ollie Neal, of Beaufort, is
receiving treatment in the hos
pital. ...
Mr. Thomas Richards, of the
Yacht Shadow, was admitted Wed
nesday. -
Mrs. H. B. Utley is a patient in
the; Morehead City hospital.
Mrs. E. W. Copeland, of More
head City, rt. 1, was admitted yes
terday. Mr. Reginald Garner is doing
nicely in the hospital.
Mrs. Howard L. Rivers, of More
head City, was admitted Thursday.
Mrs. Earl V. Davis, of Smyrna,
was admitted Tuesday for an operation.

meter calendar as a favor.

fort, was admitted to the hospital
