Masons Observe Birthday
With Supper and Dance
The Masons of Franklin Lodge
109, observed their 103 anniversary
on Friday evening with a barbecue
cupper and square dance given by
Mr. Harvey Smith.
Masons and their wifes and la
dies of the Eastern Star enjoyed
the lestive occassion with Mr. Ro
bert Safrit, master of the local
lodge, giving the welcoming ad
dress, and Mrs. Ottis Jefferson,
worthy matron of the Eastern
Stars, the response.
Solicitor William J. Bundy, past
pontentate of North Carolina, was
the guest speaker for the evening
and Judge Lambert Morris was
also a guest. Several district debu
taties were also in attendance for
the affair.
F.H.A. To Give Stanley
Supper Tomorrow Night
The Beaufort F. H. A. will spon
sor a Stanley party tomorrow eve
ning at 7 o'clock in the Methodist
Youth Building. Proceeds will go
to purchase drapes and curtains
for the Home Economics depart
ment. This party was planned at a
meeting of the club F. H. A. held
last Thursday night in the Sunday
school building on Ann Street. The
service was held by candle light
and 11 parents of the members
were invited.
Reports were given by all offi
cers and Connie Lewis was appoint
ed to order a gavel and a scrap
book for the F. H. A. news.
The Junior Homemakers Degree
was conferred upon the following
girls: Shirley Lipman, Lavenia Ma
son, Lorna Smith, Letty Eucly,
Christine Hansen, Ola Laughing
supper and square dance given by
house, Mary Johnson, Ann Lou
Laughton and Vera Lou Loftin.
A Thanksgiving basket for a
needy family was made from food
contributed by the members.

Surprise Party Given For
Mr. & Mrs. Haywood Harris
Mr. and Mrs.' Haywood N. Har
ris, of Bachelor, were given a sur
prise party last Saturday evening
by their daughter', Miss Sadie
Louise Harris, assisted by Mrs. 0.
W. Salter and Mrs. E. L. Becton.
The occasion was in honor of their
14th wedding anniversary.
The guests arrived while the
couple were taken for a drive and
on their return they were greete!
and invited into the dining room
which beautifully decorated with
yaupon and white candles. The
lace covered tablet was lovely with
its centerpiece of roses in a silver
bowl on a reflector and flanked by
four white tapers. From one end
of the table the three tiered wed
ding cake was served by Mrs. Dol
gcr after Mr. and Mrs. Harris cut
the first slice. Russia lea, mints,
and nuts were served trom the
other end of the table by Mrs.
Salter.
After refreshments wore served
the honored guests opened their
gifts.
Approximately 40 guests attend
ed the parly.

Bridge Club Thursday
Mrs. Gilbert Potter entertained
her bridge club Thursday evening
at her home on Uueon Street.
Mrs. Claud Wheatly, Jr., and
Mrs. Ed Davidson were guests for

Home Economics Teachers
Attend District Meeting

Mrs. David Beveridge and Mrs.
Delfido Cordova attended the Dis
trict Vocational Home Economics
meeting Saturday at Bath high
school. Mrs. Beveridge is home
economics instructor at Beaufort
school and Mrs. Cordova is instruc
tor at Morehead City school.
Mrs. Lola Cox conducted the
meeting, offering suggestions for
a two-week course in Christmas
homemade gifts, food, and decora
tions. The next district meeting will
be Jan. 8 at Beaufort school. Mrs.
Beveridge will be in charge of the
program which will be on "Land
scaping Home Grounds."
Counties included in this voca
tional home economics district are
Carteret, Craven, Beaufort, and
Hyde.
Book Club To Hear

The Reverend T. R. Jenkins, pas
tor of the Ann Street Methodist
Church, will he guest speaker at
the monthlv meeting of the Beau
fort Book Club Thursday evening.

The Christmas Bazaar sponsored
by the Beaufort Junior Woman's
Club was a lingo success it has
been announced bv the chairma i,
Mrs. G. W. Woolard.
Proceeds from the sale of hand
made articles, and homemade
cakes, pies, cookies and candy will
be used for several projects under
taken by the club.
The club members are especially
grateful for the splendid coopera
tion thev received from local ci
tizens in making this bazaar a suc
cess. Don't forget to send your child
to school tomorrow with a can of

OBITUARIES
Louis James Noe
Funeral1 services were held Mon
day afternoon at two o'ciock from
the home for Louis James Noe,
Sr., age 73. Mr. Noe dieO Friday
afternoon at 6:20 followir.g a lin
gering illness.
Mr. Noe was a member of the
Ann Street Methodist Church and
at one time served on the board
of stewards.
Officiating at the service were
T. R. Jenkins, his pastor, assisted
by W. W. Davis, pastor of the First
Baptist Church and Rev. M. O.
Alexander, former pastor of the
First Baptist Church.
He is survived by two children,
Miss Hazel Noe of the home and
Louis James Noe, Jr., of Beaufort;
two grand children, Louis James
Noe, III, and Ann P. Noe; two
sisters, Mrs. John C. Rice and Mrs.
Etta Whitehurst of Beaufort; also
several neices and nephews.
Acting pall bearers were: Roo
