Hatcher, president of the medical society, presided. Cherry Poini Pilots to Fly Jets at D Toro, Calif. CHERRY POINT ? Eighteen pilots all officers ? from va rious units of the Second Marine Aircraft Wing and Marine Corps Air station at Edenton have been assigned temporary additional du ty at El Toro, Calif., for jet train ing in the Lockheed TO-1 "Shoot ing Star." The Second Wing has sent two other groups of 18 each to this school previously. Upon comple tion of the school the pilots will return here to operational jet squadrons VMF-122 and 224 and VMF-115 and 211 at Edenton. This will be the last group going from here. Records indicate that the first drive-in motion picture theater was built near Camden, N. J., in 1933. lams Continue Work On Tonsil Clinic Program With the opening of ichool (or the new year the Carteret County Health department nurses, follow ing an examination by the health officer, are making home visits in connection with the tonsil clinic program. Three tonsil clinics were held in Dec. with the total of 14 children having operations. All were suc cessful. These clinics are a part of the school health program for underprivileged school children only. The health department Is also preparing for a second eye clinic, the first being held in Nov., at which time 29 children were treat ed. These clinics are held in co operation with the State Blind commission and the welfare de- ? partment and are also for under- j privileged persons. Dr. N. Thomas Ennett, count) ; health officer, stated that sur- 1 geons of the county and all other physicians are giving the school ; health work full support. ,1 Co only Agent Recommends New Type Ventilator Many Carteret county tobacco growers who start with more care ful planning of their new year s farming operations will be inter ested in considering the merits of the new Oxford type tobacco barn ridge ventilator, R. M. Williams, county agent, commented yester day. Results from curing demonstra tions conducted in a number of tobacco counties during the past season indicated that tobacco growers were well satisfied with the quality of tobacco cured, the time and fuel saved in barns with this type of ventilator. Where the Oxford ventilator was properly in stalled and operated, the fuel cost was reduced from 20 to 25 per cent, reports Mr. Williams. The average cost of construct ing this type of ventilator was $12.50 and the labor $11.50. Tobacco growers who are antic i pa ting building a new tobacco barn or remodeling the ventilation system of their old barn may se cure a working drawing or addi tional information on this ventila tor at the county agent's office. Rotarians See Film on Cement An educational sound film on the making of Portland cement was shown to Beaufort Rotarians at their weekly meeting Tuesday night in the Inlet Inn. N. F. Eure was in charge of the program. The film, explaining the method of making cement and its eventual uses in concrete, was shown by R. M. Williams. Two new members were wel comed into the club. They are Harry Whitehurst and Gerald Hill. Six members of the Morehead City Rotary club and one member of the Elizabeth, N. J., club attend ed. CpL William Smith Goes On Maneuvers in Japan WITH THE EIGHTH ARMY IN NARA, JAPAN ? Cpl. William Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam uel Smith of 408 North 10th st., Moreheafl City, is participating in field problems given by the 25th Division Artillery now being held at the Beppu maneuver area. The division artillery will spend 45 days participating in service prac tice and battalion tests. Corporal Smith entered the Ar my April 2, 1946 at New York City and was sent to Aberdeen proving grounds for basic training.
