Viola Styron Honored At Party Wednesday Bride elect, Viola Styron, who will be married to Clyde Carr Feb ruary 14, was guest of honor at a party arranged by Miss Irene Spence and given in her home Wednesday night. Among the guests was Mrs. Lillie M. Styron, mother of Miss Styron. There were three tables of bridge and one of rummy in play during the evening. After the sec ond progression the hostess served ice cream and cake in bridal col ors, nuts, and coffee. High bridge score was won by Miss Gwendolyn Willis who re ceived a milk glass candy dish. For second high. Mrs. Virginia Purifoy received a cigarette set of milk glass. Mrs. Josiah Bailey received the floating prize, a lipstick towel. For Low score, Mrs. Jack Styron received a plastic apron. High rummy score was won by Miss Hil ma Chadwick. She received dec orated plates. Miss Viola Styron was consoled with a novelty set. The hostess presented Miss Sty ron a set of Desert mist dirther ware, and a miniature bridal bou quet corsage. Mrs. Lillie M. Styron was given a corsage of pink French carnations. * Mrs. R. L. Royal Tues day. A business meeting was conduc ted by the president, Mrs. G. Hen ry Jackson, Mrs. D. J. *Eure gave the devotionals. Study books for the remainder of the year were listed by Mrs. R. W. Taylor, secre tary of missionary education. Mrs. C. N. Bennett, chairman of the Webb - Wallace circle, served the salad, and Mrs. W. L. Derrick son, chairman of the Dennis circle poured coffee. George McNeill Speaks At Womans Club Meeting Mr. George McNeill, attorney at law addressed the Garden and Civ ics Department on " The Value of Making a Will" at its meeting Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the Civic Center Following his speech, he answered many "quest ion* from the group during a dis cussion period. Mrs. G. D. Gamble, president, conducted the business meeting. Roll call was answered by each member giving a bit of informa tion on winter gardening. Mrs. D. G. Bell, president of the Women's club was given the unanimous support of the Garden and Civics club to join with the Women's club in sponsoring a play early in March. The members exchanged planU, and camellias were displayed and later given to the guests, Mrs. Oarlylc Cooke of Winston Salem, Mrs. Lillie Edwards, and Mrs. William Lambeth. The hostesses, Mrs. Luther Pin er, Mrs. Sam Adler, Mrs. E. R. Swindell, and Mrs. Duffy Wade served cake topped with whipped cream, and hot tea. Wesleyan Guild Meets At Home of Mrs. Royal The Wesleyan Service Guild of the First Methodist church met Monday night in the home of Mr?. Ben F. Royal. Mix Ruth Willi* presented an interesting pro gram entitled "The Whole Of \ Lovt." She emphasized that there , are three gifts to be used, adors- , tion, concentration and realization. Miss Dorothy Harrell. president , presided. The guild song was sung and collect repeated. Miss Betty Joyner led the devotionals. The ' group joined in singing appropri- j ate hymns. The hostess, assisted by Mrs. A. . B. Roberts, served delicious sand wiches, brownies and coffee. Miss Jean Bowles Heads Couniy FHA Council .Miss Jean Bowles was elected president and Miss Annette Guth rie, reporter of the County Future llomemakers of America, when the Morehead City Chapter met Tuesday afternoon at the school. It had been decided at the county meeting in Beaufort in December, that Morehead City would elect the president and reporter, and the remaining officers will be elec ted from the other three chapters. Barbara L. Willis, president of the Morehead City chapter, con ducted the meeting Tuesday. The girls were urged to work for their Junior Homemakers degree. The president appointed one club member from each room to collect dues. It was announced that the next evening meeting will be held January 31 in the Civic Center. Presbylerian Women Plan Fellowship Supper Plans were made for a fellow ship supper for the members of the congregation of the Webb Memorial Presbyterian church at the Women of the Church meeting | Monday night. The supper, to be held Wednes day will be planned by a commit tee composed of Mrs. George Dunn, Mrs. Jewell Smith and Mrs. Delfido Cordova. The foreign mission program, in the form of a radio skit, entitled "The Household of Faith Hour" was cleverly presented by Mrs. H. L. Joslyn, assisted by Mrs. Cora Woods, who sang, "Go As A Wit ness For Jesus." A prayer con cluded the prograjp. Lilerary and Arl Group Hears Review of Book "First First Ladies" by Mary Ormsbee Whitton was reviewed Tuesday night at the Literafy and Art department meeting by Miss Ruth Peeling. The book embraces lives of the wives of the first 16 presidents of the United States, from Martha Washington to Mary Todd Lincoln. Miss Peeling, editor of THE NEWS - TlMES, was introduced by Mrs. Darden J. Eure. A short business meeting pro ceeded the book review. Mrs. W. C. Carlton presided in place of the chairman of the Literary and Art department, Mrs. George Stovall, who was ill. The group approved a proposal presented by Mrs. D. G. Bell, pres ident of the Women's club to un derwrite sponsorship of a play by The Little Theatre. The secretary and treasurer's reports were presented by Mrs. Charles Bennett. Refreshments, ice cream, cookies, and salted nuts, were served by Mrs. Harold Sampson and Mrs. E. A. Council. Mrs. Robert Freeman Entertains Bridge Club Mrs. Arthur LaMontagne wu high scorer and Mill Ann Mills, second high, when Mrs. Robert Freeman entertained her two-tab le bridge club Tuesday night in her new home on Evans street. Guests, besides club members, were Mrs. Jimmy Wallace, Mrs. Kenneth Wagner and Mrs. Wal ter Morris. The home was attractive with Japanese quince and camellia ja ponicas used in floral arrange ments. MISS HATTIE KAY WILLIS Funeral services for Miss Hit tie Ray Willis, 38, wbo died *t her home in Swansboro Thursday morning were held from the Plney Grove Baptist church, Swansboro, Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock, with the Rev. Couch conducting the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. Surviving Miss Willis Ire her psrents, Mr. and Mrs. Isiah Wil lis of Swansboro and one sister, Mrs. Marion Weeks of Stella. MAUKICE POTEAT Fui|eral services for Maurice Potest, 60, who died at the home of his son, Joseph Potest in Glou cester, on Thursday, Jan. 12, were held from Jackson cemetery, Plymouth, N. C., on Saturday, Jan. 14. Surviving Mr. Poteat are his wife, Mrs. Clara Poteat of Nor folk, a daughter, Mrs. Olivia All cox of Broad Creek Village, Va., three sons, Thomas M. and James B., both of Norfolk, Joseph H. of Gloucester, his mother. Mrs. Olivia Poteat of Holland, Va., a broth er, Bill of Tarboro and a sister, Mrs. Alice Sears of Holland, Va. HERBERT DAVIS Herbert Davis, 66, died at his home in Davis yesterday morn ing. Funeral arrangements were not complete at press time. The list of survivors incomplete, follows: his wife Ella, and two sons, Grady and Elihu. MRS. VIOLA WILLIS Mrs. Viola Willis, widow of the late Tillman Willis, died at her home at 312 Live Oak St., Beau fort Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services were held from the Holiness church, Live Oak ft., at 4 o'clock i Thursday after noon and interment followed in Mrs. Willis, who was 81 years old, is survived by three daughters Mrs. Herbert %mith, Miss Lillian Willis, both of Beaufort, Mrs. Primrose Mason of Beaufort RFD, and 11 grandchidren.
