Sabiston, Jacksonville, was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Jackson on Sunday. Mrs. Fred S. Willis and Mrs. El bert Chadwick spent Monday in Wilmington. Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Bell and children left Tuesday to spend a few days in Beaulahville. Visiting Mrs. Elbert Chadwick over the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Nick Pollard and Mr. and Mrs. George Nevelle, Raleigh. Mr. and Mrs. George Nelson will be in Raleigh over the weekend and will attend the Duke-State foot ball game. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Goodwin re turned last Thursday from a week's visit in New York. Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Blake of Swan Quarter visited his sister, Mrs. Bruce Goodwin, and family over the weekend. ? Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Mansfield and their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ray Mans field, have returned from a ten day visit to Portland, Me., where they visited their son and brother, Mr. S. H. Mansfield and family. On the return trip they stopped in Quantico where they visited their daughter and sister, Mrs. R. H. Davenport and her family. Dr. L. A. Eakin will spend Sun day in Greensboro where he will attend a meeting. Dr. and Mrs. S. W. Thompson, Jr.. and Mr. and Mrs. William J. Cherry left yesterday for Raleigh to attend the wedding of S. W.' ?Thompson to Miss Nancy Bobbitt. Mrs. Josiah Bailey and children, Joe and Ruth, of Raleigh spent Wednesday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. R. Webb. Mrs. Emmett Willis has returned from Miami. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Poulk and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Windley will leave today (or Raleigh where they will attend the Duke-State game and the State lair. Mr. and Mrs. George Ball and daughter, Ann, left Wednesday to spend the weekend in Raleigh. They will visit Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Bay. Garden and Civic Clubs To Meet in Warsaw Mrs. Phillip Ball, president of the Garden and Civic club, an nounced Wednesday at the meet ing held at the civic center, that a district meeting would be held in Warsaw, Oct. 29th. All members were urged to attend. The More head City club is to Titertain the district clubs next year and Mrs. Ball will extend the invitation at this nceting. Due to bad weather and the funeral of Mrs. Betty Swindell, many of the club members were not able to be present. Discussed at this meeting was the club calen dar. The club members will sell subscriptions for that to raise money for the treasury. An excellent paper was given by Mrs Floyd Chadwick, on Year Round Planting. A discussion was then held by those present. Host esses, Mrs. Percy Deyo, Mrs. David Murray and Mrs. Paul Geer, served tea, cookies and brownies. Mrs. Gus Davis Injured In Accident at State Fair Mrs. Gus Davis was injured in a freak accident at the State fair in Raleigh on Tuesday. She, with her four sons, Gus, jr., Pete, Buddy and Johnny and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. S. Chagaris, went up on Tuesday and returned Wednes day. While standing in front of one of the concession stands, a pane of glass, which encased the stand, fell out and landed on her foot. She was carried by ambulance to Rex hospital and later moved to the Morehead City hospital. X-rays showed a bad sprain and Mrs. Davis will be confined to her home for several days. ' -Miss Mills Is Hostess To Bridge Club Tuesday Miss Ann Mills was hostess to her bridge club Tuesday night at her home on Evans it. Mrs. How ard Strawcutter, Mrs. Marion Mills and Miss Elizabeth Lambeth were guests. Mrs. Mills won high score, Mrs. Jimmy Wallace was second and Mrs. Strawcutter was low. Miss Mills served iced drinks and candy during play and alter progressions she served pie and coffee. The club meets Tuesday with Mrs. Jimmy Wallace at her home on Arendell street. Entered In Conteat Miss Syble Oglesby. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Oglesby, Crab Point, student at Atlantic Christian college, Wilson, is a candidate in the Home Coming Day Queen con test. Represents Carteret Miss Doris Jean Midgett, 203 S. 21st street, is the only representa tive of Carteret county at Greens boro college this year. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Midgett. She is a 1952 graduate of the Morehead City high school. Counlywide Baptist Rally Features Missionary Mrs. Pen Lile Pittard, Virginia, will be the guest speaker at the countywide rally for Baptists at the First Baptist church Tuesday night at 7:30. The public is cordial ly invited to attend this rally. Par ticular emphasis will be placed on young people. Mrs. Pittard, who was born in Nigeria, Africa, of missionary par ents, was a former mission study chairman of the Woman's Mission Union of North Carolina. She is an able speaker, teacher, successful authoress and a zealous crusader for missionary education. Her latest book, Clash of Swords, a presentation of religious back grounds, needs, and opportunities in the Near East, is the 1952 for eign mission study book for inter mediates. Mrs. Pittard also writes for the Royal Service, the Baptist daily devotional. Dr. John H. Bunn, pas tor of the First Baptist church, urges everyone to attend the rally and hear her speak on missionary work. Sarah Wood Honored On Third Birlhday Little Sarah Wood, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Wood, Homes Drive, was hostess at a birthday party Wednesday afternoon on the occasion of her third birthday. Fifteen guests were present. The children played Halloween games and were given Halloweea hats and whistles. Ice cream, cakf and punch were served and Saraft opened her gifts. Jesse Staton Elected Jesse Staton was elected assist ant superintendent of the First Methodist Sunday school by the Board of Christian Education at a meeting held Wednesday night at the church. W. B. Devotionals were given by Annette Guthrie. Mary Lou Norwood gave a speech. The members took the pledge and received certificates. They were welcomed by Ann Webb, Helen Willis, and Mary Lou. New members are Molly Barker, Joe Dixon, Betsy Davis, Hilliard Eure, Ann Garner, Ann Scripture, Maxine McLohon, David Small. Jean Snioyer, Ann Swanson, Co rinne Webb and Jerry Willis. The girls Tri Hi-Y met Wednes day night and finished writing round-robin letters to the girls away at college. The hospital com mittee decided to visit the hospital some time this week. Suggestions are offered at each meeting for the bettermnt of the club. Announcement was made of a convention to be held in Alber marle in November. Two delegates are eligible to attend and these will be voted on at the next meet ing. Mrs. Phillips' senior class had the program at chapel last Thurs day and presented a play entitled, Drugstore Capers of 1920. Owner of the drugstore was Bill Robinson. R. C. Riggs was Sorgum, and Henry Scott played Sassafrass. They car ried on a conversation until the rest of the class came in dressed in the costumes of that year (flap per days). The Gertie Howard circle oi the Woman's Society ol Christian Serv ice held its regular monthly meet ing Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Guy Garner. Mrs. Parker Guthrie led the devotional, Blessed Are the Poor in Spirit, and Mrs. Jack Howard gave a talk on the United Nations. Mrs. Floyd Gar ner presided over the business ses sion. It was decided that the cir cle would buy 35 chairs for the ed ucational building. After the meet ing adjourned, the hostess served chocolate ice cream, cakes with chocolate icing and peanuts. The November meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Garner. Pep up a cheese sauce with a lit tle finely grated onion, prepared mustard, and Worcestershire sauce.
