Army Officer1* Daughter I Learnt French, Japanese Trona, Calif. (AP) ? Yvonne Roar. 3 V may be in demand as a language interpreter when abe gets home soon (ran Japan. She's the daugiiter erf Chief Warrant Of ficer Koliert R Rose, with the Army, and his wife. Alice. First she learned some French from her maternal grandmother, who spoke the language. Then she and her mother went to Japan, u here she picked up Japanese from a nurse. The Roses wrote their stateside family that they were coming home but wouldn't stop long in Hawaii. Yvonne might learn Hawaiian, and that would only confuse her parents some more. ?jkl| ^AncAruritinn Nau/t 9VfW wwtlwWW Twllwil % Farmers Provide More Grazing for Livestock By ROY R. BECK Sail Conservation Service Many Carteret County farmers are proving how good they are in farm management problems by pro viding more supplementary graz ing for livestock, and by Initiating a soil building and disease con trolling rotation on tobacco land. For those who have started a livestock program on their farms, it has been a problem to provide ;i "THF SHOW PLACE Of1 CARTERET COUNTY" ? SUNDAY ? MONDAY ? TUESDAY ? where the I aw ended and the liorttiei hej.tit itKl bullets anil a woman s beauty ruled ' ? :i Starring JOHN PAYNE MARIB DAN DURYEA enough supplementary grazing crops due to shortage of land. Moat of these farmers started by ?)ed Ing their low b^ck land to perma nent pasture. This cut down the available feed crop aereage, but some, like Carl Garner of Newport, have seed ed small grains on tobacco land for winter grating, and have used sev eral acres of com land for annual lespedeia as a summer grazing and hay crop. In doing this they have improved their crop rotations, provided more forage crops for their cattle, and have increased both tobacco and corn yields. J. H. Hill, conservation farmer of Newport, installed another tile drain line through a low wet place in his tobacco field this spring. He is planning on dynamiting a new outlet ditch for another sec tion of his farm this summer. Mr. Hill is also growing croto laria on a high sand hill on his farm to build up the land. Gordon Becton. who farms in the Harlowe section, has finished seed ing his home farm to improved pasture this sping. He also plans to seed a piece of new ground to pasture this fall. Mr. Becton says he wants to drain a wet place in his tobacco field, as soon as possible, with drain tile. It's a springy area that always has to be cut out when tobacco is planted on this field. Famed Statue Is Not Perfect Los Angeles (AP) ? Venus de Milo, long regarded as the per fect beauty, isn't, says Dr. Sidney R. Bob. He says she has a hammer toe on her right foot. Dr. Bob, after inspecting the famed statue during a European tour, told the California Assn. of Chiropodists: "Female vanity hasn't changed much since the days of the ancient Greeks. I suspect the model for the goddess, like her modern coun terparts, wore the wrong shoes be cause she thought they flattered her feet." Half the U. S. men who reach age 65 will live 12 years longer. i ^5 1937 - 1954 THIS MONTH WE CELEBRATE OUR 17 th ANNIVERSARY W? want to paus* at this time to thank the folks of this aroa for thoir friendship and patronage for these past 17 years.
