Women of Baptist Circles Hear Mrs. Lamont Edgerton, Goldsboro The circles of the First Baptist Church met at the church Tuesday in an all-day meeting. The group opened the meeting with the hymn of the year, Jesus Saves. Miss Ad die Norvell of the Kennedy Home, who is visiting Mr. and Mrs. George McNeill, led in prayer. Mrs. L. J. Norris, president, in troduced the speaker of the mom ing, Mrs. Lamont Edgerton, of Goldsboro and Atlantic Beach. She spoke on prayer. Dr. John U. Bunn, pastor, then led in prayer. The circles adjourned to meet separately in their respective classrooms for business sessions. Lunch was served in the assembly room by the Addie H. Jones Circle. At the afternoon program Mrs. Norris opened with the group sing ing the woman's hymn, Come Women. Wide Proclaim. Mrs. Ida Eaton led in prayer. Mrs. H. S. Gibbs Sr.. secretary, read the min utes and th< count of circles was taken. . Mrs. George Howard Sr. gave the devotional. Her topic was Sal vation by Faith. Taking part on this part of the program were Mrs. John Oglcsby and Mrs. Eaton. Mrs. Sadie Webb Wood led in prayer. Mrs. Howard closed the after noon devotional! with a poem and the Lord's Prayer. Speaker for the afternoon was Mrs. B. D Bunn of Whiteville and Morehead City. She spoke on Seed time in the Phillipines. Mrs. M. L. Piqer led in prayer. Among the visitors was Mrs. D. J. Kmc former president of the Woman's Society of Christian Ser vice of the First Methodist Church. Presbyterian Circles Hold Combined Meeting Three circles of the First Pres byterian Church met Monday night in the Sunday School rooms of the church. The meeting opened with the president, Mrs. R. B. Howard, lead ing in a hymn and a prayer. The Bible lesson was given by Mrs. A. F. Chestnut, on the topic. Begin ning of World Missions by Paul and Barnabas. The meeting closed with a prayer chain. Refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mrs. John James Jr., Mrs. Gannon Talbert and Mrs. W. E. Guthrie. Lt. and Mrs. Tony Fugaro left yesterday for New York City where Lieutenant Fugaro will be stationed with the Coast Guard. Dr. and Mrs. Ira Long and daugh ter, Edith, of Goldsboro are spend ing this week with relatives. Miss Ruth Willis was admitted to the Morehead City Hospital Tuesday for treatment of her eyes. Mr and Mrs. Ed Basnight re turned Wednesday to Elizabeth City after spending several days with Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Ayscue. Mr. and Mrs. Walter McFall of Chapel Hill are spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roland McCIamrock, at Atlan tic Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar LaRoque of Kinston spent seveVal days this week at the Atlantic Beach Hotel. Mrs. Craig Cornwall has returned to her home in Weldon after visit ing Mrs. Herbert Thornton at her home in Mansfield Park. Mr. and Mrs. Lamont Grantham of Shreveport, La., are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Zeb Gran tham. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stamey and daughter Sharon of Tallahassee, Fla., are visiting Mrs. Stamey's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Rivers. Mr. Robert Harrell, who is em ployed with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad in Rocky Mount, is spending his vacation here Mth his wife, Mrs. Harrell, and dangh ter, Dorothy. Miss Jerry Nelson, RN, of Rex Hospital, Raleigh, visited her par ents. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Nelson, this week. Mrs. Edgar Bell and son, David, left Sunday fof Fernandino, Beach. Fla., to join her husband who is employed there. Mrs. Bruce Poe and daughter, Betty, of Durham are spending this week with Mrs. Poe's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin M. Garner. Mrs. G. E. Sanderson and daugh ter, Faye, are spending this week in Plymouth with Mrs. Sander son's mother, Mrs. Henry Spruili. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Swindell will spend this weekend in Arlington, Va., with Mr. Swindell's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. An drew Ruddock. On the way home they will stop by Washington, D. The wedding took place in New Bern Thursday, July 15. Friends of the family at tended the ceremony. After a wedding trip the couple will make their home in Morehead City. Eastman-Garner Mr. and Mrs. Alvin M. Garner announce the marriage of their daughter, Ann, to Mr. George A. Eastman Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Eastman Sr. of Beaufort. The wedding took place Monday, in the First Methodist Church of McCall, S. C. Master Danny Brown will be ring bearer and little Sandra McElmon will be flower girl. The Rev. Noah Brown, pastor of the church, will perform the cere mony. which begins at seven-thirty o'clock. Mr. Albert McElmon will be soloist and Mrs. Theodore Phil lips will be organist. Three Women Entertain Wesleyan Guild Monday Mrs. Ethan Davis, hostess, Mrs. Gladys Colenda and Mrs. Fred S. Willis, co - hostesses, entertained members of the Wesleyan Guild of the First Methodist Church Mon day night at the home of Mrs. Davis on Bridges street. Special guest was Mrs. Herbert Hopkins of Brown Summit, N. C. ! Mrs. A. L. Brinson, president, presided at a short business ses sion. Miss Ruth Willis, program chairman, was unable to attend the meeting due to illness but she pent a tape recording outlining her work in the guild. She stressed the fact that all members should take subscriptions to the Methodist Woman and World Outlook, religious maga zines, about guild work. The twenty members were served pineapple sherbet, brownies and nuts. Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Ramsey, State Officials, Visit Local Rebekah Clubs Mrs. Laura Johnson of Raleigh, president of the Rebekah Assem bly of North Carolina, and Mrs. Inez Ramsey of Greensboro, vice president. visited Rebekahs in this locality this week. Wednesday night they met with the Esther Lodge in Morehead City and conducted a school of instruc tion. They were presented with red rose corsages. Mrs. Edna Piner, noble grand, opened the meeting. Tuesday night they were enter tained by the Naomi Lodge of Havelock. Also at this meeting were representatives of the Letitia Lodge in Wilmington who present ed the Havelock Lodge with the traveling gavel. Mrs. Alease Hill, noble grand, accepted. Prior to the meeting Mr$. John son and Mrs. Ramsey were taken to dinner at Mozingo's. Lodge Blanche Hawkins of Cove City vis ited Mr. and Mrs. Walter Heath Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Moses Howard vis ited his father in Greenville Sat urday. Mr. and Mrs. Earnesf Cannon and son of New York are visiting her mother, Mrs. F. C. Garner. Miss Mary Bell Garner and nieces. Misses Wilma Gould and Doris Garner, of Wilmington spent the weekend with Mrs. Eva Sim mons. Miss Mary Elizabeth Gould returned home with them. The Rev. and Mrs. D. B. Cum mins and children left Wednesday to spend three weeks visiting in Arkansas. Mrs. Barnes Entertains Mrs. Sammy Barnes was hos tess to her bridge club Friday even ing. Mrs. Eugene Fox won high score prize, Mrs. Edgar Hibbs won second high and bingo and Mrs. Parker Guthrie traveling. The hos tess served iced drinks and nuts during progressions and cherry pie at the end of the evening. After the school of instruction, iced drinks were served. Monday night the guests met with the Miriam Rebekabs in Beau fort. After the school of instruc tion a social hour was held. The lodge served sandwiches, potato chips, block cake and iced drinks. Mrs. Hazel Swain, noble grand, con ducted the meeting. Last night the visitors were guests of the Letitia Lodge in Wil mington. Moose Women Organize Wives, mothers, daughters and sisters of Moose members are in vited to attend an organizational meeting of the Women of the Moose Wednesday night at 8 p.m. in the Moose Lodge west of More head City.
