Last year the company gave ap proximately $20,000 to the school systems of its home town and county, Winston-Salem and For syth County, to assure the contin uation of their driver training pro grams, about to be dropped be cause of lack of funds. The company stated at that time that it hoped other industrial con cerns throughout the country would become interested in this approach to highway safety. Following that initial gift, the Reynolds management resolved to help promote high school driver training in other parts of the state. "We were astounded to find," John C. Whitaker, chairman of the board, said in announcing the pro ject, "that thirty counties had no program at all; not more than half of the other counties had adequate programs; and not more than six counties had programs of which North Carolina could be proud ? that is, programs that include every high school in the county. Tons of frozen chicken, as well as more than 100,000 pounds of oranges were shipped out of the Morehead City port Wednesday aboard the MS Goettingen. The ship was loaded with the port's eighth tobacco cargo for the year. The chicken, shipped here from Gainesville, Ga., and the oranges comprised the first refrigerated cargo ever to leave Morehead City, i According to unconfirmed re i ports the chicken is going to U S. | Armed Forces in Germany. I The oranges were originally to have been loaded on the Goettin ger at Norfolk, but they didn't get to that port before the ship left for here, so they were trucked to ' Morehead City.
