Mr and Mrs. Thomas Southgate of Winston-Salem are visiting at the Hanes Cottage, Sunset Shores. Malcolm and Barbara Goodwin are attending a conference at Peace Junior College, Raleigh, this week. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Willis and daughters Connie and Carol re turned Friday after visiting two days in Wilmington. Miss Fanella Cooper has accept cd a position at Dee Gee's Shop. Mr. and Mrs. Alton Woodcock and Mrs. Ivey L. Woodcock were in New Bern Tuesday. Mrs. Bobby Willis accompanied them there. Miss Joyce Taylor and Mrs. Robert Wallace Jr. spent the week end in Charleston, S. C. Mrs. A. B. Roberts Jr. was in Raleigh Tuesday and Wednesday. Accompanying her was Mrs. Myrtle Duncan of Beaufort. They are at tending a council meeting of the North Carolina Federation of Wo men's Clubs. Miss Jacquie Roberts and Miss Elizabeth Taylor were in Durham for the weekend. Miss Grace Roberts is spending a week with her aunt, Mrs. George Ball, at Coral Bay. Mr. and Mrs. Ivey Woodcock re turned home Monday night from Louisburg and Raleigh where they visited friends and relatives. While they were gone, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Knowles of Rocky Point and Mr. and Mrs. William Webber of Fort Bragg were visiting here. Mr. and Mrs. Alton Woodcock en tertained them. Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Guthrie and children have returned to Morchead City after a visit with relatives in Fla. Mr. and Mrs. John James Jr. and children, Christie and John, spent the weekend in Charlotte. They picked up Mrs. James' chil dren Lynn and Bob Pretlow in Wilmington, who will spend the summer with their mother at the James home, the old Mansfield house, in Mansfield Park. Patricia McBane Receives Degree at Chapel Hill Miss Patricia McBane. Burling ton, daughter of Mrs. H. G. Mc Bane, the former Lina Wade of Morehead City, has received her bachelor's degree in education at the University of North Carolina. Miss McBane graduated with honors in English. She was on the Dean's List, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and held membership in the Order of the Old Well, received the Publica tions Key Award, served as vice chairman, secretary and advisory board chairman of the Student Party; chairman of the Graham Me morial Activities Film Board, secre tary of the Publications Board, sec retary to Carolina Forum, a mem ber of the student legislature, clerk of the Philanthropic Literary So ciety, member of the National Stu dents' Association, secretary of the President's Caartitution Codifica tion Committee; member of the Young Democrats Club, Carolina Playmakers, and the YWCA. She received service citations from the Order of the Grail and the Graham Memorial Activities Board. Miss McBane graduated at Wil liams High. Burlington, in 1952 and attended Woman's College for two years before transferring to UNC. Free Will Baptist Church Auxiliary Meets The Woman's Auxiliary of the Kree Will Baptist Church met Tuesday night at the church to study the topic, We Need Soul Winners for Such a Time as This. Taking part in the program were Mrs. Noah Brown, Mrs. May Sprin gle, Mrs. Durlie Salter, Mrs. Vio let Morris, and Mrs. Ruby Barker. The time and place of the next meeting will be announced. The picnic was held on the (rounds of the Carolina race track, west of More head City. At commencement exercises Fri day night at the church, pupils received their diplomas from Miss Joyce Taylor, religious education director, who was in charge of the school. The children gave reports on things they bad learned and dis played handwork. Total enrollment of the school was 184. Average daily attendance was 170. Fidelis Class Meets At Tu-Ja/s Tuesday Night The Fidelis Class of First Bap tist Church, Morehead City, met Tuesday night with Mrs. John Lashley at her home, Tu-Jays, on Pelletier Creek. There were four teen members present. Mrs. Rufus Oglesby, president, presided at the business session. The main business was the dis cussion of the sending of gifts and cards to a number of shut-ins. For the program each member presented a favorite poem. Mrs. Lashley served a fruit drink, cookies, and peanuts. Mrs. Cecil Nelson is teacher of the class. Methodist Church Circles To Meet Monday Night The three circles of Franklin Memorial Methodist Church will meet at 8 o'clock Monday night. The Suzanne Land Circle will meet with Mrs. Elizabeth Fulcher with Mrs. Clara Guthrie as co hostess. The Glenmore Moore Circlc will meet with Mrs. Leta Blomberg with Mrs. Lillian Bell as co-hos tess. The Ann Mariah Circle will meet with Mrs. Leah Folsom with Mrs. Missouri Bryan as co-hostess. Women of Moose Plan Family Picnic June 24 A family picnic was planned by the Women of the Moose at their meeting Tuesday night at the lodge hall, Atlantic Beach. The picnic will be held Sunday, June 24, at Emerald Isle starting at 10:30 a.m. Everyone should bring his own food. Mrs. Bertha Armstrong was the lucky ticket winner and receive^ an aluminum novelty dish and ft polishing cloth. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Margaret Canfield and Mrs. Evelyn Willis. Mrs. Willis, senior regent, presided. Mrs. W. C. Carlton Gives Luncheon for Miss Webb' Mrs. W. C. Carlton entertained at a luncheon for Miss Patricia Webb, bride-elect, Monday at her home. A corsage of white gardenias and a silver bowl was presented to Miss Webb upon arrival. I Mrs. Colon Hayes Wilson, mo ther of the groom, Havelock, was also presented a corsage of white gardenias. I There were twelve guests pres ent. Methodist Men's Club Dines on Clam Chowder The Methodist Men's Club of First Methodist Church, Morehead City had a clam chowder supper Monday night. James Webb and Ethan Davis were the chefs. Program chairman Truman Kemp introduced Jack Holt, who conducted a question and answer period on the state port. Lawrence Garner Attends Carolina Beach Meeting Lawrence A. Garner, Newport, director of the New Bern Produc tion Credit Association, is attend ing the directors conference of all the associations in the state at Carolina Beach. The meeting started Wednesday and will end today. Accompanying him was his wife. Raleigh Inquiries Invited ' DIAL 2-6488 Collect -T Gerald Mann Family Pays Visit Gerald Mann, who received his master's degree in civil engineer ing at Purdue University June 3, along with his wife Edna and daughter Terri, is visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Manly E. Mann, Newport. Mr. Mann, a graduate of New port School and North Carolina State College where he received his BS degree in 1952, will return soon to Indianapolis, Ind., where he will be employed by Mobile Drilling Inc. as head of the division of foundation and consultant en gineer. While at State College he was president of the student YMCA, co chairman of the Southeastern Con ference of the YMCA and YWCA, was elected to the Golden Chain as honorary senior, is a member of Tau Beta Pi, Blue Key, and Pi Tau Sigma. After his graduation from State tie entered the Air Force and was stationed at Wright-Patterson Air field in Ohio where he met and married his wife Nov. 21, 1953. He entered Purdue in 1854 after his discharge from the service. He graduated with honors and received his MS in civil engineering. His future plans are to return to North Carolina and organize an en gineering consultant firm. Billy Rowe, Newport, Marries Virginia Girl at Washington, D.C. In a double ring ccremony solemnized Saturday, June 2, at four o'clock in the Methodist Church, Washington, D. C., Miss Joyce Marie Durer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Durer of Charlottesville, Va. became the bride of Mr. Billy Rowe, son of Mr. and Mrs. William L. Rowe of Newport. The church altar was arranged with palms flanking baskets of white gladiolas and asters and seven-branched candelabra holding white cathedral candles. A pro gram of nuptial music was pre sented by the church organist and tenor Loren Bearce sang O Prom ise Me and I Love You Truly. The Lord's Prayer was sung as ft bene diction. The bride wore a gown of white satin with lace over the bodice and long sleeves ending in points over her hands. The dress had a very full skirt. Her fingertip veil of bridal illusion was attached to a tier of lace and bridal illusion. She carried a cascade bouquet of white gladiolas and stephanotis. Miss Virginia Durer, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Mr. James Rowe, brother of the groom was best man. | The bride's mother wore a street length dress of navy crepe with blue accessories and white carna tion corsage. The groom's mother wore a street length dress of pink silk shantung with pink accessor ies and white carnation corsage. Immediately following the cere mony a reception was held in the recreation hall of the church. The hall was decorated with white gladiolas. The bride's table was covered with white linen and dec orated with white gladiolas and stephanotis, centered by the bridal cake. The bride and groom left im mediately after the reception on their wedding trip. Following their return they will be at home at Washington, D. C.
