This year, we have 86 students in high school, six of whom haye entered for the first time. They are Jane and Keith Moon, Guy Taylor Jr., Juiian and Marshall Saunders, and Stevie Mason. Guy Taylor and Keith Moon are in the senior class. We also have a new coach, Mr. Roy Cockerham. He is a graduate of High Point College and hopes to put a pair of winning teams on the court this year. He teaches health, U.S. history, typing and physical education. We are very glad to have these new additions to our high school and hope they will enjoy all the time they spend with us. The Senior 4 H Club met Thurs day in the auditorium. Mrs. Gar ner talked to us about Achieve ment Day and led us in the Wa termelon Song. We elected our officers. They are president, Guy Taylor Jr.; vice-president, Phyllis Morris; secretary, Sandra Salter; and song leader, Elmo Gaskill. We also discussed the possibility of Weather Bureau Will Place Wind Gauge at WMBL R. L. Frost, meteorologist in charge of the Wilmington Weather Bureau, visited Morehead City and Beaufort Friday to complete plans for installing a surface wind ane mometer at radio station WMBL. Thirty - eight such instruments will measure wind velocity at vital points along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts from Texas to Maine. The one at Morehead City has a top priority rating and should be ready for use this season, Mr. Frost said. Employees of WMBL will tele phone reports to Wilmington every six hours in ordinary weather and every hour during hurricanes. The anemometers will serve a double purpose. They will guide the Miami weather bureau as they put out -storm advisories. In addi tion, they will serve as a perma nent service for forecasting high water during northeast and other high winds, the meteorologist ex plained. | putting on an exhibit in the coun ty fair.
