Miss Thelma Memakis will leave loday for Norfolk, Va., to spend the weekend. She will be the guest of Mr. Larry Barnette at the home of his parents. Mrs. Darden Eurc went to At lanta, Ga., Monday to be with her mother, who was observing her 79th birthday. Mrs. Eurc will spend a week there. Dr. and Mrs. Ben Royal were in Greensboro Monday for the in auguration of Chancellor G. W. Blackwell. Dr. Royal attended a trustees board meeting. They stayed overnight in Chapel Hill and returned home Tuesday. Social Meeting is Held By Supreme Forest Circle The Supreme Forest Woodmen Circle met for a social meeting Friday night at the home of Mrs. Alice Ebron at Crab Point. The hostesses were Mrs. Ebron and Mrs. Lois Kittrell. Special guest was Miss Stella Probst of the Gastonia grove. Jun iors present were the Misses Eliza beth Kittrell, Mildred Ebron and Phyllis Clancy. Two teams, the green team and the lavender team, were formed to represent the Woodmen Circle colors. There will be a contest for the first six months of thb year with the team obtaining the most new members for the grove being entertained at the social meeting in June by the losing team. Games were played and prizes were won by Mrs. Mary Brinson and Mrs. Mattic Glancy. The door prize of a lovely set of pictures was won by Mrs. Mary Brinson. Refreshments were served consist ing of coffee, cake, nuts and po tato chips. The next business meeting will be March 7 at 7:30 at the Wood men Hall cast of the Camp Glenn School. WSCS to Meet The WSCS of Franklin Memorial Melhodist Church will meet at 7:30 Monday night at the church. LIQUID OR TAHITI FROMALL THOSE MISERIES Lt. Cmdr. MacCormack Sp?aks to Art Group Lt. Cmdr. John MacCormack of Atlantic spoke to the Literary and Art Department Wednesday night at the civic center. He was intro duced by Mrs. W. C. Carlton, pro gram chairman. Mr. MacCormack brought a number of his oil paintings and wood carvings which be exhibited. Mr. MacCormack said that any one can do anything if he tries hard enough. He told how he be came interested in art when his chief petty officer in the Navy showed him how to mix paints. His commanding officer asked him to do portraits of his children and he has been painting ever since. His hobby is ship models and he said he became interested in wood caning when he carved a figure head for one of his models. A discussion period was held and questions were asked of the speak er. The meeting was opened with the club collect and the singing of The Old North State. Mrs. Gus Davis, chairman, welcomed the speaker and Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Salisbury as guests. Mrs. Milton Roush, secretary, read a letter of thanks from Mr. Leu wood Lee, school principal, for a donation to the underprivileged children fund. Mrs. S. A. Horton. treasurer, reported 100 per cent dues paid. Mrs. W. L. Brady presented the following officers nominated for the coming year: Mrs. Roush, chairman; Mrs. W. B. Chalk, vice-chairman; Mrs. Bernard Leary, secretary; Mrs. Owens Frederick, treasurer. A tribute to the late Mrs. tflodie Webb Arthur, a long-standing de partment member, was paid by Mrs. Davis. Mrs. Carlton and her committee were thanked for the fine programs given this year. It was announced that next month a musical program will be presented by Mrs. Herbert Webb of Sea Level. She will play Aida by Verdi. The hostesses were Mrs. W. L. Derrickson, Mrs. Malcolm Good win, Mrs. A F. Chestnut, Mrs. J. W. Thompson Jr. and Mrs. J. W. Jackson. They served ice cream, brownies, cocoanut macaroons and I mixed nuts. Officers Are Elected By Junior Woman's Club The Morehead City Junior Wo man's Club elected officers at their meeting Monday night at the civic center. The following were elected: Mrs. Coolidge Merrill, president; Mrs. Thomas Noc, first vice-pres ident; Mrs. Jerry Norris, second vice-president; Mrs. Dick Parker, treasurer; Mrs. Richard Spears, recording secretary; Mrs. Shelby Freeman, corresponding secretary and Mrs. Harry Venters, historian. Mrs. Bill Baugham introduced the speaker, Mrs. A. B. Roberts. She spoke on the life of Albert Schweitzer and showed pictures of different phases of his career. The hostesses, Mrs. M. T. Mills, Mrs. Freeman, Mrs. Rufus But ner, and Mrs. Roy Hutchins served sandwiches, potato chips and colas. Rebecca Hartey Observes Birthday on Wednesday Miss Rebecca Haney celebrated her tenth birthday Wednesday with a party at the civic center from 3:30 until 5. Guests were members of her Brownie troop. Games and contests were en joyed. A two-tiered birthday cake was served with ice cream and punch. Mrs. J. C. Haney and Mrs. Peggv Donnelly served. The hon orcc received many gifts. Women to Meet The women of the First Presby terian Church will hold their gen eral meeting Monday evening at 7:30 at the church. This is the last general meeting before the dis trict conference, to be held March 12 at the church. Profits from Bridge Benefit Will Send Girl Scouts to CamD Girl Scout Troop No. 97, under the direction of Mrs. A. B. Roberts Jr., and sponsored by the Junior Woman's Club will receive camp ing expense money for a three day camping expedition in August to Camp Trailec, Goldsboro. Money for the trip will be pro vided from the profits of the Girl Scout bridge benefit beld by the Junior Woman's Club on Wednes day afternoon at the Rex Restau rant. A total of $50 profit was realized and any funds above camp expense will be used to meet the needs of other local troops. Lady Baltimore cake and coffee were served at the beginning of play and coffee was served throughout the afternoon. Door prizes were distributed to persons holding lucky numbers during pro gression of play. Winners of door prizes were Mrs. Jerry Norris, a potted hyacinth from Mrs. E. P Spence; Mrs. Betty Porter, satin quilted coat hangers from Bclk's; Mrs. Romel da Sheppard, a linen handkerchief from Clara's; Mrs. Jean Morrison, towels from D. B. Webb's Mrs. C. R. Davant towels from the Morehead City Drug Co.; Mrs. Fifth Graders Present Musical Program at PTA The fifth grades of Miss Lucy Fleming, Miss Joyce Taylor and Mrs. Ed McKinlcy presented a musical program at the Camp Glenn PTA meeting Tuesday night at the school. They were accom panied by Mrs. Ralph Wade. Mayor George Dill was the speaker and chose as his topic the educational system. The Rev. W. P. Huff of the Parkview Baptist Church gave the devotions. In the absence of the treasurer, Bernard Leary, principal R. W. Davis reported $533.68 in the trea sury. Mrs. Theodore Rice, secre tary, presided in the absence of the president and vice-president. It was announced that the Valen tine dance held recently netted $111.10. Although there was not a large attendance, it was felt that those who did attend enjoyed themselves. Mrs. R. W. Davis won the door prize, a box of valentine candy. A slate of officers for next year was presented by the nominating committee. They arc Clyde Burr for president; John Conner, vice president; Mrs. A. F. Chestnut, secretary; and Mr. Leary, treas urer. Mr. L. O. Crowe was nom inated for president from the floor. The officers will be voted on next month. The attendance prize was won; by Mrs. McKinley's room. Three Baptist Groups Enjoy Supper Monday Members of the Woman's Aux iliary, the Brotherhood and the Young Woman's Auxiliary of the First Baptist Church and their guests enjoyed a covered dish sup per Monday night at the church. Grace was said by John T. Ogles by. Frank Moran, J. Warren Beck and W. C. Carlton gave a review of the book Look, Look the Cities. A love offering was taken to buy school lunches. Eugene Espy pro nounced the benediction. In keeping with the theme of cities, Mrs. Leland Day's seventh grade had made a miniature city. A floral arrangement of red and white carnations was placed in memory of Mrs. J. F. Giddens. Blue and red candles and Ameri can flags were used in observance of George Washington's birthday. Garden Club Members Attend Lecture Thursday Four members of the Garden and Civic Department attended a lec ture and demonstration on Flower Arrangements for all Occasions in Jacksonville last Thursday. Mrs. Dorothy Beddlc, editor of the Popular Garden Club maga zine, was speaker. The program was sponsored by the Jacksonville Garden Council. Those attending were Mrs. C. R. Davant, Mrs. M. J. General co-cbairmcn of the bene fit were Mrs. Hugh Stiles and Mrs. Dick Parker. Working on the prize committee were Mrs. Silas Tborne, Mrs. Jerry Norris and Mrs. Thomas L. Noe. Both the Girl Scouts and the Junior Woman's Club thank all businesses donating prizes, not only for their contributions, but for their generous response to the request. Lanier Book Club Heart About Mardi Crat Mrs Vtgrinia Bradbury spoke on the New Orleans Mardi Graa at the meeting of the Lanier Book Club Tuesday night at the civic center. Mrs. Bradbury was introduced by Mrs. Byrd Wade, who was in charge of the program. She tcld of the origin of Mardi Graa, traditionally a period of feasting and revelry before Ash Wednesday. She described "carni val" as it is observed in New Or leans, where she lived for a num ber of years. To illustrate her talk, she showed the types of favors tossed to pa rade spectators and showed news paper pictures of this year's Mardi Gras. During the business session, the club decided to cancel the March 11 meeting. The next meeting will be at 8 Tuesday night, March 2S, at the borne of Mrs. John Lashlcy. Easter will be the program topic. The March 11 meeting was can celled because of conflicting church meetings. Miss Amie Klein, secretary, read the roll and members re sponded with current events topics. The minutes of the previous meet ing were approved. Mrs. Louis Norris presided. The hostess, Miss Lillian Fran ces Giddens, served cherry pie a la mode topped with a maraschino cherry and tiny American flag, coffee and salted nuts. A bouquet of red carnations and white chrysanthemums was used in decoration. Miss Ruth Peeling was a guest of the hostess. Swansboro, and Freddie Salter of ECC College, Greenville, spent the weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Salter. Elder Eddie Humphrey, Jack sonville, filled his regular appoint ment Sunday. Quite a number of visitors from Jacksonville were present. Capt. William Rose and Mrs. Pritchard Lewis of Beaufort spent Monday with Captain Rose's sis ter, Mrs. Maltby Taylor. They also visited Abbott Salter and family. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Piner and children, Williston. spent Sunday with Mrs. Piner's mother, Mrs. Adell Salter.
