The closing ceremony of the FHA was used at the conclusion of the meeting. Typewriting Contest On Tuesday, March 4, thirteen first. year typing students entered the county typewriting contest. The test consisted of three parts: 1 A five-minute timed writing; 2. A 10-minute timed letter writing, and 3. questions and problems of re lated learning. The students who participated in this contest were Bettie Eure, Bet tie Bedsworth, Cynthia Davis, Joyce Styron, Lillian Royal!, Win dy Lowe, Virginia Smithwick, Cleta Taylor, Ruby Wray, Patsy Robinson, Barbara Harrell, Rennie Awana, and Leroy Blanchard. The test lasted one hour. Con ducting the tests were Miss Lowe faculty advisor from . East Caro lina College, and Miss Pat Sher rian, an honor student from East Carolina. Results of the test will be revealed in a few days. Scholarship Test Students interested in taking a test for a National Merit Scholar ship should register at the princi pal s office before March 20. Senior Superlatives March 4, annual editor Sally Morris handed out ballot sheets to the members of the senior class Seniors were to mark their choice for superlatives. Before telling you the winners, here s a note for the senior mem bers who did not vote. Voting is a privilege affodred you. A vote was given to you in order that you could have your say-so in the outcome. You abused this privi leg?, however. So when you see the winners, if you have your gripes, there's one question for you: Did you vote? If your answer is "no", then don't spoil things for others by griping. You had your chance. Keeping their noses to the grind stone, Jane Oglesby and David Nelson were voted most studious If there's ever a job to be done, and done well, these two seniors, Margaret Guthrie and Billy Ful cher, voted most dependable, are the two to see. Danieley Dr. Jum Earl Danieley, hus band of the former Verona Daniels of Beaufort, will be inaugurated president of Eloc College in cere monies there today. Dr. Danieley is one of the youngest college presidents in the country. Inaugural Week began Thursday at the college and will close with the inaugural luncheon today. Events have included a piano re cital Thursday, the inaugural ball Friday, a play by the Elon players Saturday, a program by the col lege choir Sunday, the inaugural banquet yesterday and the formal ceremony today. Mrs. Danieley's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Burton Daniels, and her brother, Ralph, left Saturday to attend. Miss Patsy Daniels of Greenville and Mr. and Mrs. Val verta Garner of Newport went to Elon yesterday and all will return home tonight. Mrs. Safrit Announces Results of Cookie Sale Mrs. Leonard Safrit, Beaufort cookie sale chairman, announces that the Girl Scouts and Brownies sold 825 boxes of cookies in Beau fort during their recent sale. The local Scouts receive five cents profit on each box sold. The money went toward buying a lar ger heating unit for the Girl Scout room in the Scout building. Mrs. Safrit is trying to establish a new troop of fifth grade girls and asks any fifth grader interest ed in belonging to contact her. All Girl Scout leaders and as sistant leaders will meet tomor row at 2 p.m. at the Scout build ing for a training course, Mrs. Safrit announces. Free Will Baptist Youth Organize Club Friday A group of young people from the First Free Will Baptist Church met Friday night and organized the Crusaders for Christ. The sims of the group are to crusade for Christ and to increase Christian service in the church and com munity. The Rev. W. A. Hales presided until Bruce Dudley was elected president. Weekly meetings will be held on Thursday nights at 7:30 and sll young people of the community are invited. ? Recreation Head Speaks to Lions Fred Lewis, supervisor of the Morehead City recreation pro gram, was guest speaker at the Morehead Lions Club meeting at the Hotel Fort Macon Thursday night. Mr. Lewis discussed the sum mer recreation program and told the club how the recreation build ing is used during the winter months. A bridge club meets on Monday nights; square and folk dance les sons are held there on Tuesday nights; the Rcbckahs and little theatre groups meet tb?re on Wed nesdays; the Odd Fellows meet there on Thursdays; the teen-age club meets on Friday nights and the building is for rent for private parties on Saturday nights. Lion J. E. Crowe was appointed to check on the condition of equip ment at the recreation center that was donated by the Lions Club. President J. E. Eubanks told him to sec how much it would cost to put it in first-class shape. Owens Frederick reported that the club had sold $108 worth of azaleas and camellias.
