Canada were called here Monday by the death of his father, Capt. Charlie Thomas. Also here were Charles Thomas III, a student at the Uni versity of North Carolina and Miss Rita Thomas of Peace College. Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Williams wlH leave tomorrow for Raleigh to attend May Day activities at Meredith College. Their daughter, Peggy. >? ? member of the queen's court. Mr. Carl Hatsell returned home Saturday from Morehead City Hos pital, where he was a patient for some time. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Steed visited in Greenville and New Bern Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. James D. Potter and daughter, Fran, will attend May Day activities at St. Mary's Junior College, Raleigh, this week end. Their daughter, Cathryn, will participate as a dancer. Mr. and Mrs. James Steed and family visited relatives of Mrs. Steed in Ayden Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Willis spent the weekend in Norfolk, Va. Vrs. Ben Taylor of Maxton, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Floyd of Lumberton and t>r. and Mrs. C. R. Swearln gen of Smithfield were here Mon day for the funeral of Mr. Charles Thomas. Mrs. T. A. Tommy G, Styron, USCG, left Tuesday by plane ta return te San Juan, Puerto Hieo, after spending a ten-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Styron of Sea Level. Thirty Persons Take Part In County Bridge League Seven and one half tables were in play when the County Bridge League met at the recreation building in Morehead City Monday night. North-south winners were Dr. and Mrs. Charles Duffy of New Bern, first; Mrs. W. A. Mace Jr. and Mrs. J. S. Steed, second; and Mrs. Joe House and Mrs. C. R. Wheatly Sr., third. Mrs. Floyd Chadwiek and Mrs. B. 0. Ketner were first plaee win ners east-west. Mr. Jack Windley and Mr. S. K. Hedgecock were second and Mrs. Harvey Hamilton Sr. and Mrs. Cart Gunnersen were third. Mrs. Leslie Davis, Miss Geral dine Smith, Miss Lena Duncan, Mrs. Mary Privette, Mrs. W. I. Loftin, Mrs. G. W. Duncan and Mrs. Clarence Guthrie. Two tours will be made June 16. one at 10 a.m. and the other at 11:30 a.m. The bus will go by historic spots of Beaufort and vi cinity. Tickets; to be bought in advance, will go on sale the lat ter part of May. The tours will be on the same day as the Woman's Club-spon sored Old Homes tour. The old homes will be open the after* noon of June 16. In addition to the tours, the club will sponsor an arts and crafts exhibit and an exhibit of relics. All cluh members were delight ed with Mr. Pad's line of chatter on the "shakedown tour". They predict the tour will be a delight to anyone who goes on it. Price is a dollar per pferson. In preparation for these elec tions, the Beaufort High School Student Council Convention took place Friday in our auditorium. The president of the student body, Danny Willis, called tlw meeting to order. After announcing the of ficial opening of the convention, Danny asked Joane Allen, secre tary of the council, to read the elections laws from the constitu tion. Succeeding this were the nom ination of officers by their cam paign managers and the accept ances of the nominations by the candidates. The following is a list of those choscn to run for offices: Running for president, Douglas Finer and Sammy Merrill; for vice-president. Butch Hassell. Freddie Hooper, and George Hunt ley; for treasurer, Jyey Graham and Bertha fodrie; and for sec retary, Pud Hanell and Lillie Grace Herbert.
