Dr. Woolridge died Friday, July 4.

Is Honored at Shower
Mrs W. L Lowery of Newport,

a shower at the home of Mra.
Charles Hill, Newport, last Thurs
day evening. Mrs. Hill greeted the
guests and introduced them to the
bonoree.
In the diniaf room punch and
block cake, mints and nuts were
served from a lace-covered table
by Mr*. Walter D. Heath and Mrs.
C. M. Hill.
Many friends called and the
honoree received gifts of linen and
household appliances.

Receives Scholarship
Miii Margaret Clark Guthrie, above, has been named recipient
of a four-year scholarship to East Carolina College. The award is
given to children of veterans by the state through the North Carolina
Veterans Commission. She is the daughter of Mrs. Clara Guthrie
and the late Agnew Guthrie.

another daughter, invited guests
into the dining room where they
were served fruit punch and cake
by two granddaughters, Mrs. Floyd
Harness of Raleigh and Mrs. W.
D. Heath.
Mrs. J. S. Neal of Norfolk, a
daughter, presided in the dining
room and was assisted by a grand
daughter, Miss Jenny Lynn Gar
ner, and three great-granddaugh
ters, Miss Corinne Davidson of
Jackaonville, Fla., and the Misses
Beverly and Patricia Harness of
Raleigh.
JTie table, covered with a lace
cloth, was centered with the birth
day cake and arrangements of
shasta daisies were used on the
table and buffet.
Among the guests was Mrs. Mar
tha Hunninga, who celebrated her
Slat birthday in May. Out-of-town
guests were Mrs. Edward Potter,

Miss White Receives
Honors at Meredith
Raleigh ? Hiss Louise White,
daughter of Mrs. J. C. White of
Morehead City, was honored on
the awards night program at Mere
dith College, when she was named
to receive special honors this year
for the high excellence of her
work in the department of English.
She also was elected editor of
the college newspaper, The Twig,
for next year, and has served as
secretary of the International Rela
tions Club, as proctor of Fair cloth
Hall, one of the 125-student dormi
tories, and as a member of the
Astrotekton Literary Society.
She is a 1955 graduate of the
Morehead City High School.

Annual Meeting Tuesday
The annual meeting of the Naomi
Bible Class of the First Baptiit
Church was held at the Rex Res
taurant Tueaday night.
Twenty-five members attended.
There were two guests, Mrs. Rob

George McNeill.
After dinner Mrs. Wallace gave
