Mr. and Mrs. John Lundmark, Vienna, Va., are spending a week at the Eric Nelson home. Mr. and. Mrs. Everett Smith, Melbourne, Fla., are spending the summer at the Middleton home. Mrs. Murray Pigott spent Sat urday in Kinston. Mrs. Sybil Basinger and chil dren, Concord, are visiting her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Davis. Mrs. Ernest Maclntprff and Marylin, of Virginia, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Henry Chadwick. Jaycee Reports On Beauty Show Beaufort Jaycee Henry Eubanks reported on the Miss North Caro lina pageant at the Jaycee meet ing Mooday night at the Scout building. Mr. Eubanks chauffeured Miss Beaufort, Winki Willis, while she was in Charlotte. George Thomas and Jesse Tay lor gave their impressions of the event to the Jaycees. They flew to Charlotte and watched the Fri day night and Saturday perform ances. President Guy Smith announced a district Jaycee meeting at Have lock on July 29. There jrill be a quarterly board meeting in Wil- i mington Aug. 9-10. The Jaycees hired Barrus Con struction Co. to level the football field. The field will be planted in I grass soon. Cadet Samuel Bruce Edwards Jr., of Beaufort, is attending a six-week summer camp at Fort Bragg under the Re serve Officer Training Corps pro gram of Wake Forest College. The training will end Aug. 2. Edwards, whose parents live at 307 Craven St., Beaufort, is a 1055 graduate of Beaufort High School and a member of Pi Kappa Alpha and Alpha Phi Omega fraternities. Samuel Douglass Salter, seaman apprentice, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel D. Salter . . . bound for Far East Allen Salter, Sea Level, will sail Wednesday, July JO, aboard the USS Porterfield. leaving San Fran cisco for the Far East. Seaman Salter joined the Navy Sept. 24, 1957. He finished basic training at San Diego, Cal., and then was assigned to the Porter field. Sates at the Beaufort store were $13,522.40. at Morchead City, $26. 296.10, at Newport, $9,393.30, and Atlantic Beach, $19,600.45. Paid to the towns was the fol lowing: Beaufort $635 11, Morehead City Hospital $1,235 04, Newport |44117, Atlantic Beach $?20 57, and the county $2,931.89. Postoffices Will Have New-Rate Stamps Aug. 1 County postmasters announce that they will have plenty of the new-rate stamps and postal cards on hand when the new postage rati* go into (fleet Friday, Aug. 1. Harold Webb of the Morehead City postoffice reports that the postoffice department has been is suing new stamps, stamped enve lopes and postal cards to post of fices for several weeks in antici pation of the new rate changes. Large additional supplies of the regular 4 cents stamp, bearing the likeness of Abraham Lincoln, are being received here to mast the new first-class letter rate of 4 cents an ouace. Ja addition, issues ?t special stamps and commemo rative atamps will be available at the Morehead City postoffice in 4 oent denominations. Adequate supplies also are ex pected in other stamps, cards and envelopes, Including new 7 cent air mail stamp*, replacing the cent air mail stamps; 3-cent pos tal cards replacing the 2-cent cards; and 4- and 7-cent stamped envelopes to be used in place of I- and 8-cent stamped envelopes. "Picture" post cards wiU require f-cent stamps for survacc trans portation and 5-cent stamps for air transportation. Ample supplies of 3 and 5-cent stamps are ex pected to meet anticipated demand for these stamps.
