Budget Commission Visits Morehead Port Wednesday Oyster Report Given Monday To Advisors Referred Monday at Wilmington to the advisory board of the state commercial fisheries committee was the oyster report from the North Carolina Fisheries Associa tion. The advisory board is to con sider the report and present its findings to the commercial fish eries committee at the Conserva tion and Development board meet ing at Asheville in October. The report, aired at a public hearing at Morehead City last Sat urday, found fault with much of the way the state's oyster rehabil itation program is being carried out. Dr. A. F. Chestnut, director of the Institute of Fisheries Research, who with C. G. Holland, commer cial fisheries commissioner, super Vises the oyster program, said of the report following the Saturday hearing, "It is unfortunate that the actual truth is not in this thing. Here are a few people posing as spokesman for the North Carolina oyster industry." The report was based on opinions of oystermen at a series of five meetings held along the coast, plus questionnaires which the NCFA said it sent to oystermen. The commercial fisheries coiii mittee said that the no-Saturdty shrimping regulation would not be changed. Persons cannot shxlntp after S a.m. Saturday. Also rejected was a request to permit use of gill nets in Albe marle Sound west of the Norfolk Southern railroad bridge, for the taking of rockfish and shad. Approved was a proposal to pro hibit the use of power-propelled oyster dredges in New River, On ?low County. The committee told Florida shrimpers they can buy North Carolina licenses to shrimp in North Carolina waters under the reciprocal agreement between the two states, but that they must not have a count of more than 70 shrimp to the pound they take. There is no restriction on file pound count in Florida waters. The Conservation and Develop- 1 ment Board in its closing sessibn r at Wilmington Tuesday expressed "interest" in the joint proposal of 1 the All-Seashore Highway Asoscta- r tion and the Southeastern North < Carolina Beach Association for ? t program designed on a long-rartje i basts to make numerous improfe ments to the Outer Banki. The combat capa bilities of Marine All-Weather Fighter Squadron-114, a tactical unit of the Second Marine Aircraft Wing, have been greatly increased here with the adoption of two new accessories on their F4D "Skyray" jet aircraft. The new equipment consists of a rocket pod containing seven 2.75 "mighty-mouse" rockets, and a firing error indicator (FEI), which is used to photograph hits made with the rockets on targets. The new rocket pods are carried on the racks located on the underside of the F4D's wings, and are fired by the pilot. This method ii dependably accurate, even when engaging a high speed target, thereby greatly increasing the "kill" probability of the squad ron. The firing error Indicator has undergone extensive evaluation by Westinghouse Electric Company at Patuxeht River, Maryland. Cur rently being installed in VMF(AW) 114 aircraft, the FEI is used pri marily for (coring air-to-air rocket firing it high speeds. The sysifeitt utilizes an exterior camera pod with a 16 MM camera with a telephoto lens. The camera if apecially wired by the squad ron's electric shop under the di rection of T/Sgt. D. T. Wilson to operate automatically when the radar fires the external rockets' packages. With the use of the FEI, the squadron in flying ita new high speed, high altitude, F4D "Sky rays" win be able to accurately evaluate rocket firing practices. To quote VMF(AW)-114's Ordnance Shop camera man, S/Sgt. J. V. Srymkowski, "Tl* FEI la a fool iiroof contribution to Marine avia tion." 9UN9nirai LAUNDRY AND Missionary Sea Level, Move f6 N#w Church Helen E. Ripple John Welfare Staff Raleigh ? Helen E.
