Young children who arc TB con tacts should be given the tuber culin test every three months for the first year. Many times the first tuberculin test fn them will be negative, for the germ might not have had time to become active. If neglected, the results could really become serious, the health officer said. Sterility is one of the great fears from repeated x-rays. When x-rays are made in the health department on children, or young adults, a protective shield is used between the patient and x-ray machine. This is a rack covered with lead lined rubber. It can be raised or lowered according to the height of the patient, to the bottom of ribs, thus preventing any unneces sary x-rays from entering the body. Dr. Brooks told of a recent ad mission to the hospital of a child suffering with tubercular menin gitis. Upon examination of the con tacts in the faitiiiy, all were nega tive. Further examination showed the grandmother who had been baby sitting, to have active tuber culosis. Tuberculosis is contagious; the health of a baby sitter, 1s very important Dr. Fulcher says that tuberculin tests can be done on anyone who will come to the health department clinic on Tuesday at Morehead from 9 to 11 in the morning at the boipital annex; in Beaufort 1 to 4 p.m. at the health department. If these tests are positive, x-ray clinics are beld on Tuesday and Thursday* mornings from 9-12 a.tn. The cost of the x-rays are $3, if you are able to pay. The next clinic will be Aug. 18, at the health department BY AP POINTMENT ONLY. Suspects can be sent to this clinic by iny physi cian. Reports are mailed to each patient's doctor, listing findings or recommendations, following each clinic. Big Pott Denver (AP) ?
