Mr. Alan Henderson, La Grange, III., who is visiting his mother, Mrs. Clarence Henderson, was in New Jersey on a business trip Thursday and Friday. Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Blair and son, Billy, who have spent the summer at their home here, re turned to their home in Vanceboro Monday, where Mr. Blair is dis trict principal in the Vanceboro system. Mrs. Lester Pigott entertained at a swimming party at her home Saturday afternoon for the children who attended Vacation Bible School at Straits Methodist Church. The panel was calM to Waah ington by the Americin Associa tion for the Advancement ot Science to review a kit of materials prepared by the President's Com mittee on Scientists and Engineers for the use of counselors in science all over the country. Leiter, super visor of pupil services, Baltimore, Md.; Lawrence Quill, department of chemistry, Michigan State Uni versity; Wayne Taylor, Extension Division, University of Texas; and the renowned Margaret Mead, of the American Museum of Natural History, New York. Mr. Davis last year was serving in the capacity of head of the science department, Sunnyslgpe High School, Phoenix, Ariz. The President's Committee, on which Mr. Davis served, was charged with responsibility for en listing the cooperation of all in terested individuals and groups in dealing with the problem of the shortage of scienlific manpower. The National Science Founda tion was directed to provide staff services and research assistance, and to give leadership to other gov ernment departments working on the problem. The committee had prepared a kit of materials for use by coun selors in secondary schools throughout the USA and asked the AAAS to call a panel to Washing ton to review the kit, criticize it, and give practical suggestions. Takes Part oa Symposium Mr. Davis also served on a pre vious assignment for the AAAS this spring when he was invited to be one of five speakers presenting a Symposium on Improvement of Science Teaching as part of the thirty-fourth annual meeting of the Southwestern and Rocky Mountain Division of the American Associa tion for the advancement of science. The convention was held at the Institute of Scientific Re search, Las Vegas, New Mexico, April 27 through May 1, 1958. Mr. Davis presented the topic "Conceptualization in High School Physics: A Case History Approach to the Laws of Motion." Mr. Davis, his wife and three Charles R. Davis . . . nationally recognized children have been in the county since June 4.
