Youths Stage Theatrical
To Benefit New Hospital
Carrollton, Ky. (AP) ? Nancy
Danner, Gareth Lindsey and John
McClung went on a fund-raising
drive for the new Carroll County
Memorial Hospital.
They turned their money over
to the hospital? all 85 cents of H.
Nancy, 10, and Gareth and John,
both S, danced and sang in their
backyard theatrical production and
sold refreshments, too.
The money will be used to help
buy books and games for a chil
dren's room at the hospital.
Near Malta are two British col
onies of which little is heard. One
is the island of Gozo, 27 square
miles, and the other is Comino,
one square mile.
John Reel Morris Begins

had violated terms of a suspended
sentence given earlier this year.
Another year was added to the
original sentence after Morris was
found guilty of driving drunk and I
damaging Beaufort town property
This sentence was suspended on ]
payment of $150 and costs, $50 of !
which will go to Beaufort.
George H. Fiekett was fined $100
and ordered to pay costs after
being convicted of driving drunk
and driving without a license. Eli
jah Springle was ordered to pay
$50 plus costs for careless and
reckless driving.
Rldred Gillikin and Billy Earl
Gillikin, given suspended sen
tences, were ordered to pay fines
of $25 plus court costs for robbing
the O. W. Lewis store at Otway.
They were also ordered to make
a settlement with Mr. Lewis.
Assaults Stepdaughter
Harry Lynch was fined $25 and
costs for assaulting his step-daugh
ter Miss Shirley Mason. She testi
fied that Lynch hit her after
threatening her mother. Miss Ma
son hit him over the head with a
fruit jar, giving him a cut that
required seven stitches to close.
Louzell C. Stewart was convict
ed of assault and was ordered to
pay $10 per week to the welfare
department for the support of his
minor child. He got a two year
suspended sentence.
Three defendants paid $10 and
costs. They were Fobie L. Binetti
and James W. Conner Jr., disturb
ing the peace, and Doze Hender
son, public drunkenness.
Roderick 9 Semrod paid costs
for disturbing the peace. Also pay
ing costs was Abbott Pari Rose,
charged with trespassing and
threatening bodily harm.
Forfeit Bond*
Those who forfeited bonds fol
low: Weldon Fulcher and Neil
Jones, violation of fishing laws;
Cora Lee Gillikin. driving without
a license; Ralph Gillikin, allowing
an unlicensed person to drive;
Marvin H. Chandler, public drunk
enness and breaking arreit.
Nathaniel Haynes, public drunk
enness; Bobby G. Gillikin, care
less and reckless driving; J. W.
Taylor and James T. McNeill,
speeding; and Ephriam L. Bell,
speeding and having an improper
muffler.
David H. Parker was found to
be the victim of malicious prose
cution and the judge ordered the
prosecuting witness to pay costs.
Parker had been charged with as
sault.
The state elected not to try Rod
ney G. Nelson, charged with im
proper use of dealers plates.
Charges against Arthur Marvell
Jr., Charles E. Edwards and Rich
ard Leonine were dismissed. The
men had been charged with fight
ing and disturbing the peace.
Lions Club Has
Picnic Supper
Sixty-five Lions, their wives and
chifdren attended the Morehead
City Lions picnic Thursday night.
The picnic was held in Frank Mo
ran's yard on Arendell Street.
The picnic committee collected
enough money to buy 50 pounds of
steak and a quantity of hamburger
and hot dogs, all of which disap
peared (hiring the course of the
evening.
All Lions who had charcoal grills
brought them. The only trouble,
according to publicity chairman O.
N. Allred, was that some of the
inexperienced hands let their
steaks catch on fire.
"It was good eating," Mr. All
red said. "There was no program
and precious little talking once the
steaks were done."
Junior Women to Meet
The Junior Woman's Club of
Beaufort will meet at 8:30 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 1, at the Scout build
ing. All members are asked to
bring their birthday calendars to
turn in, as they must be sent to
the publisher.

came the bride of Stephen Dudley
Jr. of Beaufort in a double ring
ceremony Friday evening at six
o'clock at the Otway Christian
Church.
The Rev. Paul Parker, pastor
officiated. The vows were spoken
before a background of wihte glad
iolas, palms, and candelabra hold
ing lighted white tapers.
Mrs. Paul Parker, organist, and
Mrs. J. W. Funk of Morehead City,
soloist, presented a program of
nuptial music prior to the cere
mony. Mrs. Funk sang Because
and the Bridal Prayer.
The bride was given in marriage
by her father. She wore a floor
length gown of chantilly lace and
tulle over satin. The bodice fea
tured a scalloped sabrina neck
line and long sleeves ending in
calla points over the hands.
The bouffant skirt of tulW' fea
tured a scalloped lace Overskirt.
Her fingertip veil of imported
silk illusion was attached to a lace
coronet, embroidered with seed
pearls and sequins and she carried
a white Bible topped with a white
orchid and showered with stream
ers.

Beaufort, Thursday noon, and hit
a Henry J driven by Mrs. Glenn
Adair, Beaufort. Damage to the

There was no damage to the Stude
baker. No charges were filed.

folk, Va., registered nurse, was
maid of honor and the bride's only
attendant. She wore a floor length
gown of mint green taffeta fa
shioned with a fitted bodice and
voluminous skirt.
She carried a bouquet of pink
carnations tied with matching rib
bons.

The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. W. T. Piner of Otway.
She is a graduate of Smyrna High
School and Louise Obici School of
Nursing, Suffolk, Va. She is em
ployed at Sea Level Community
Hospital.
The bridegroom is a commercial
menhaden fisherman and is em
ployed by Beaufort Fisheries.

ering from an operation at the Sea
Level Community Hospital. All of
her friends on the island would

Marine Struck
By Automobile
Charles A. Conroy. Cherry Point
Marine, was seriously injured at
12:15 a.m. Sunday when he was
struck by an automobile in front
of Smitty's Place on highway 70
west of Newport.
Patrolman W. J. Smith Jr. said
Conroy' s legs were broken (one of
them was broken in two places)
and he had severe cuts on his
head.
According to the patrolman, the
car which hit Conroy, a 1953 Olds
mobile,, was driven by James F.
Union. Cherry Point. Linson was
headed west. Conroy. with three
other Marines, was walking along
the highway.
Preliminary investigation indi
cated that the Marines were on
the wrong side of the road for pe
destrians and were probably on
the hard surface.
Conroy was taken to the Cherry
Point hospital in a Navy ambu
lance. Damage to Linson's car,
the right front fender, was esti
mated at $50. Charges are pend
ing.
Morehead City Firemen
Answer Warehouse Call
Morehead City firemen answered
a call at noon Saturday to the
R&N Furniture Co. warehouse1 in
the 1300 block of Bridges Street.
A fire had started on the load
ing ramp. It was discovered by
Willie Hill, watchman, who sent
a youngster to the furniture store.
Thomas Noe, part owner of the
store, phoned the fire department.
Damage was slight.
Two Cited
Milton Thomas Pratt, Morehead
City, has been charged with hit
and run, and Alton Gaskill, owner
of the car, Beaufort RFD, has
been charged with aiding and
abetting in hit and run. The high
way patrol says Pratt was driver
of a 1952 Mercury which struck
another car Aug. 17 at Sea Level.
