Successful Family Supper
The recent covered dish supper
sponsored by the Rosary-Altar So
ciety of St. Egbert's Catholic
Church was successful, according
to reports heard by the society
Wednesday night at the school hall.
Mrs. Bill Norris, vice-president,
presided. A discussion was held
on a card party at the school hall
in September and Mrs. Vic Bella
mah, Mrs. Norris, Mrs. Bascom
Williams and Mrs. Bill Williams
were named to a committee to
make plans.
The members of the society will
receive communion in a body at
the 9 o'clock mass Sunday.
Mrs. Sam Hatcher and Mrs. Vi
vian Coney will assist the nuns at
the opening of school Tuesday.
Mrs. Fred Anthony and Mrs. Tony
Kellum will help clean the build
ing and a committee will be
formed to wash windows and do
other heavy chores. New desks
have been ordered and should ar
rive soon.
Members were asked to tell Mrs.
Norris of illness or births in the
parish so that she can send cards.
A November bazaar was men
tioned and plans will be discussed
at the September meeting.
An informal meeting for new so
ciety members will be held at the
rectory late next month. Hostesses
will be Mrs. John Pavone and Mrs.
Bob Cantelli. Old and new mem
bers will be invited.

and Mrs. Norris will mend and
prepare the altar boy garments
for use this winter. Christmas
cards are being ordered and will
be sold this fall.

A brief business session was con
ducted after the supper, followed

Mrs. Barnum Announces
Need for Scout Leaders
Mrs. Robert Barnum, neighbor
hood Scout chairman, has an
nounced that the need for workers
with the Scouts this year is acute.
A senior Girl Scout troop will be
formed for the first time this year
and the eleven troops in action
last year are expected to begin
again.
Mrs. Barnum also asks that mo
thers who have daughters 7 years
old and in the second gi*ade who
would like to join a Brownie troop,
please contact her.

Birthday on Saturday

brated his fourth birthday Satur
day afternoon with a party at his
home. Twelve of his friends attend
ed.
A circus theme was carried out.
Refreshments of clown ice cream
cones, circus cake and colas were
served. The children received gifts,
balloons and gum favors.

Plans Fall Wedding
Mr. and Mrs. Hazen C. Olson of Traverse City, Mich., announce
the engagement of their daughter, Sandfa Jean, to Frank T. Carlson,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Carlson of Arlington, Mass. Miss
Olson is employed as a medical laboratory technician at Morchead
City Hospital and Mr. Carlson is employed as biologist by the Oyster
Institute of North America in Beaufort. A fall wedding is planned.

at three o'clock Sunday afternoon
at Corinth Baptist Church, Eliza
beth City.
The Rev. Don C. Pryor officiat
ed, using the double ring cere
mony. White gladiolas, pom poms,
fern, palms and four seven
branched candelabra holding light
ed tapers were used to decorate
the church.
Miss Ann Dowd of Sumter, S.
C., cousin of the bride, organist,
and Mr. Edward Carraway of New
port. brother of the bridegroom,
soloist, presented a program of
nuptial music prior to the cere
mony. Mr. Carraway sang I Love
You Truly and The Lord's Prayer.
The bride was given in marriage
by her father. She wore a ballerina
gown of white imported organdy
over taffeta fashioned with a fitted
bodice with pointed waist, a scal
loped neckline and short sleeves,
and a voluminous skirt.
Her fingertip veil was attached
to a crown trimmed with orange
blossoms and seed pearls. She
carried a prayer book topped with
a white orchid and wore a strand
of pearls, a gift of the bridegroom.
Miss Yvonne FerreU of Eliza
beth City was maid of honor. She
wore a gown of blue duponi de
signed with a fitted bodice with
round neckline and full skirt.
Mrs. James Clarence Temple of
Elizabeth City was a bridesmaid
and Miss Martha Cartwright, sis
ter of the bride, was a junior
bridesmaid.
They wore gowni of pink duponi
fashioned like that of the honor
attendant. They all wore matching
bandeaux and mitts and carried
nosegays of pink carnations.
Mr. Edward Francis Carraway
of Newport, father of the bride
groom, was best man. Ushers were
Mr. Sheldon Howard of Newport
and Mr. Raymond Cartwright,
brother of the bride.
For her daughter's wedding Mrs.
Cartwright chose a light blue cot
ton dress with navy accessories
and an orchid corsage. Mrs. Car
raway, mother of the bridegroom,
wore a navy blue lace dress with
pink accessories. She also wore an
orchid corsage.
Following the ceremony the cou
ple and their attendants greeted
guests at the church entrance.
Upon their return from a wedding
trip, they will make their home
in Greenville.
For travelling the bride changed
to a blue sheath dress of nubby
weave cotton with white acces
sories and the orchid lifted from
her bouquet.
