George Goldens Observe Anniversary Saturday Mr. and Mrs. George Golden of Sea Level celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Saturday with an open house at their home. Mrs. Grace Golden, a daugh ter-in-law, presided at the guest register and Mrs. Christine Gol den, another daughter-in-law, pre sided in the gift room. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George R. Carroll of Dur ham and the bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Martha Lynch of Beau fort. The Rev. Fred Barnes heard the double ring vows before a back ground of palms, woodwardia fern and wrought iron candelabra hold ing lighted white candles, inter spersed with floor baskets of white flower*. A white satin pre dieu completed the scene. Family pews were marked with white flowers and satin ribbons. Prior to the ceremony a program of wedding music was presented by Miss Judith Kckerman, organ ist, and Mrs. Clifton Lynch of Morchead City, vocalist. Given in marriage by her step father, the bride wore a dress of pure silk taffeta designed with a fitted bodice, sabrina neckline ac: cented with seed pearls and se quins, and long fitted sleeves end ing in calla points over the hands. The full skirt, accented with chantilly lace appliques, ended in a full court train. Her veil of silk illusion was attached to a lace half-hat embroidered with pearls and she carried a cascade bouquet of white snowdrift and tiny gar denias centered with a white or chid. Matron of honor was Mrs. Ralph Cannady Jr. of Sumter, S. C. She wore a dress of rose taffeta and lace, fashioned with a fitted bod ice, sabrina neckline accented with lace, abbreviated sleeves and full skirt. She wore matching rose shoes and a hat of velvet embroidered with seed pearls and accented with a nose veil. She carried a cascade bouquet of golden rapture roses. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Bob Peters and Miss La Verne Strick land of Durham. Their dresses and hats were like those of the honor Obituary D. EDGAR THOMPSON Ocracoke? David Edgar Thomp son, SO, died in a Norfolk hoipital Aug. 21 after a short illness. Fun eral services were held at the Ocracoke Methodist Church on Saturday, with Rev. W. W Clarke officiating, t Burial was in the Ocracoke Com munity Cemetery. Pallbearers were Maltby Bragg, Ed Wells, Charles Ahman, Rudolph Waller, Larry Williams and Wahab How ard. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson moved to Ocracoke from Tarboro several years ago, and about two years ago built a home here. He was a member of the Ocracoke CivH dub and had served as its secretary. He is survived by Mrs. Thomp son, the former Elsie Dunn of Au rora, by his mother, Mrs. Frank M. Thompson of Hickory, and by four brothers and four sisters. Mr. Thompson's mother, though 80 years of age, made the trip all the way from Hickory to Ocra coke with his sister, Mrs. Harel Pariler and son, Tom, of Lenoir, and were here Saturday and put of Sunday. Also here were Mrs. Thompson's brother, H. C. Dunn and Mr*. Dunn, and their daughter, Mm. The bride's parents entertained at a reception in the church social room immediately following the ceremony. For a wedding trip to western North Carolina the bride wore a gray organza over summer print dress with gray and white acces sories and an orchid corsage. The couple will make their home at 2344 Grant Ave., Raleigh. The bride attended Durham City Schools and Kennedy's Commer cial School. Mr. Lynch is a recent graduate of Duke University. Miss Safrit Entertained By Mrs. T. T. Potter Mr?. T. T. Potter entertained it a luncheon Wednesday at the Morehead Biltmore Hotel, honor ing Mix Jane Safrit, local debu tante. The honoree's place was marked with a small doll dressed in a copy of the gown in which Miss Safrit will make her debut. Methodist Sub-District Meets at Straits Church The Morehetd - Baaufort MVP sub district met Monday night at the Straits Methodist Church. There was a total attendance o I 194. Jackie Wheatley led in fellow ship singing to open the progrsa*' A devotional program was then conducted by the Straits MVP. Miss Dorothy Chadwick spoke on the subject Faith, which is one of the program areas of ftfYF. The program was very inspiring and everyone felt that it was good to have been there. After the devotional, the Rev. J. E. Smith, pastor of the Beaufort circuit, led in a discussion per taining to attitudes in school. Sev eral MYFs presetted skits to illus trate such attitudes as cheating, abusing school property, attitudes toward teachers, importance of grades, extracurricular activities, etc. Some very important thoughts were brought out during the dis cussion and the subject was very timely since school begins this Tuesday. Kay Temple gave a report on her week at annual conference ses sion. Her talk was very interesting and made us all wish that we could have gone. After a brief business session and the MYF benediction, we were served cake and soft drinks by the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Straits Methodist Church. The fellowship during re freshments was enjoyed by all. ?
