President A. B. Cooper presided. The Rev. E. Guthrie Brown of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church opened the meeting with a scripture read ing and prayer. Mr. Cooper welcomed the return ing and new teachers and the new citizens to the community. He marie a brief talk on the PTA's ' goal for the year. . The president announced the committee chairmen aa follows: Mrs. Gus Davis, membership; Mrs. 8. A. Horton, grade mothers; War ren Beck, program; Mrs. Harry Salter, lunchroom; and Jewell Smith, Halloween Carnival chair man. On Oct. 24 the PTA will sponsor their c .iuat Halloween Carnival. Meals will be served and the pub lic Is invited. All the committees ar* asked to help Mrs. Davis work for 100 per cent membership. Grademothcrs are to assist Mrs. Horton with new furnishings for the teachers lounge. Dr. M. B. Morey, assistant chair man for the Citizen* Committee fbr Better Schools, was speaker for the evening. The next meeting will be held Oct. 13, at 7:10 p.m. Diana Thompson Named President of Troop 226 Girl Scout Troop 226 met Wed nesday afternoon it the Episcopal Pariah House and new officers ware elected for the cowing year. Officers elected were Diana Thompson, president; Frances Da Vta, vice-president; Betty Ruffin Garner, secretary and Frances Lawrence, treasurer. Hostesses Give Tea In Honor of Bride-Elect Mrs. Jack Morgan and Mrs. L. A. Daniels entertained at a tea Wednesday afternoon a? the Mor gan home, honoring Miss Cecelia Oglesby, bride-elect. A pink and white motif was car ried out. A miniature bride and groom in a crystal bowl centered a table in the hall. The honoree received a white carnation corsage. Her mother, Mrs. Cecil Oglesby. received a cor sage of pink carnations and Misa Sandra Olson, also an October bride-elect, was given a pink and white corsage. Miss Oglesby and Miss Olson re ceived aluminum and glass cas serole dishes from the hostesses. Hors d'oeuvres, pickles, olives, salted nuts, brownies, nutty fingers and colas were served from a table covered with a white cloth. It was centered with an arrange ment of pink and white carnations ehd pom-poms flanked with pink candles. Fifty guests called between four and five-thirty. Deputy Grand Regent Visits Women of Moose Women of the Moose were honor ed Saturday night by a visit by the Deputy Grand Regent of High Point, Mrs. Billy Bowman. The meeting was held at the lodg* hall, Atlantic Beach. An informal discussion was held followed by refreshments. Mrs. Flay McCabe served block cake, coffee, peanuts and mints. The next meeting will be Tues day night at the lodge hall. Mary Alice Morris Heads Girl Scout Troop More head City Girl Scout Inter mediate Troop met Wednesday afternoon in the recreation build ing and elected the following offi cers for the coining Scout year: Mary Alice Morris, president; Betty Jo Gray, vice-president; Joyce . Service teams were designated for t'le October supper meeting of the Brotherhood of St. Andrews and for the luncheon meeting of Every-Member Canvassers. The revised list of hostesses for the year was read and announce ment made of the October meet ing at the home of Mrs. David Murray with Mrs. Percy Dayo, co hostess. Mrs. Mary Shockley gave a re port on the Thrift Shop, stating that men's shoes, shirts and work clothes are needed. Announcement was made of the corporate communion and of pre sentation of the annual fall United Thank Offering Oct. 10 at 7:30 a.m. The meeting was closed with the Lord's Prayer Refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Davis and Miss Amie Klein. Mr?. W. C. Carlton Hottest to Bible Class Mri. W. C. Carlton was hostess to the Lillian Wallace Bible das* Tuesday night at her home on Arendell Street. Attractive ar rangements of early (all flowers and potted plants were used throughout the home. Prior to the usual business ses sion, elass members enjoyed a delicious buffet supper they had prepared. The menu consisted of sliced baked ham, french bread, string beans and dumplings, pic kled peaches, relish, potato salad and banana cake. Mrs. Carlton was in charge of the Bible Study course, and in using references they studied the plan of salvation found in the New Testament. Prayer was offered by MrB. Edgar Bell. Mrs. Harold Webb, outgoing president, was remembered with a silver medallion necklace and matching earrings. Mrs. Webb then presented each member a small jar of homemade pickle relish. All members of the class are urged to attend the meeting In October, the date and place to be announced later. Officers for the coming year will be elected and installed. During the meeting the members discussed future pro jects, played games and sang songs.
