Mr. Brown discuased the can vass for new members, budget matters and the church doctrine. He reminded the members of the 1 United Thank Offering program, " ' which will be held at 7:30 this " morning at the church. Devotions were given by Mrs. W. G. Dick. Mrs. Bruce Willis Hostess To Thursday Bridge Club Mrs. Bruce Willis entertained the Thursday evening bridge club last week. High scorer was Mrs. Gus Davis, second high was Mrs. A. T. Baugh and low was Mrs. Milton Roush. The hostess served apple pic with coffee at the conclusion of play. Mrs. Baugh entertained the club last night. LAIRDS APPLE WINE 75c 4/5 Quart Church Women Hear Program on Redemption Redemption in the Nature and Minion of the Church was the program theme of the Monday night meeting of the Women of the Firit Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Joe DuBois was moderator and assisted by Mrs. D. Cordova, Mrs. Carroll Morgan and Mrs. A. B. Vick Sr. Mrs. J. W. Kellogg gave the Bible study. Forty women attended circle meetings during September. Hos tesses were Mrs. W. E. Guthrie, Mrs. E. H. Marrow and Mrs. George Springs. The women of the church made nearly sixty visits to new residents and new mem bers of the church last month. Mrs. L. J. Klein, president thanked those who helped during the week of services featuring Dr. F. Crossley Morgan. Coffee hours were arranged by Mrs. H. L. Jos lyn, Mrs. J. W. Kellogg and Mrs. S. W. Thompson Jr. Mrs. L. J. Norris Jr. was in charge of the nursery. The Presbyterial meeting, to be held in Jacksonville Oct. 22, was announced. Mrs. R. B. Howard is president and Mrs. Klein was clected voting delegate. This year's Bible study. Meet Dr. Luke, will be taught by Dr. A. F. Chestnut. It will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday and will continue for six weeks. Mrs. Kellogg was named chair man of the nominating committee and will be assisted by Mrs. Jas per Phillips and Mrs. George Vick roy. The new officers will be elect ed at the Nov. 3 meeting. Josiah Bailey Jr. Speaks To County Cosmetologists Mr. Josiah Bailey Jr., certified public accountant, was the guest speaker at the recent meeting of the Carteret County Cosmetologists Association at the Rex Restaurant. After giving the early history of the present income tax system, Mr. Bailey gave helpful sugges tions for filing a return, lie con cluded by stressing the importance of keeping accurate records. New members from Havelock and Swansboro were welcomed into the unit, which now has a membership of twenty-eigth. When Martha Washington visited C,en. Octobar 12tM8th Flower Exhibits to Highlight Monthly Garden Club Meeting Hm Garden and Civics Depart ment of the Woman's Club will meet for the (lr?t time this year Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 at the eiric center. Mrs. J. X. Gibson of Swansboro will be guest speaker and will also demonstrate dried srrangements. A new feature at the monthly meetings this year will be exhibits by members. Each month exhibi tors may enter not more than two in any one group, but may enter in each group designated for the month. Exhibits will be judged and points of award will be carried through the year with a prize being awarded in May to the per son having the most points. Groups for the October meeting will be No Thanks to Helene, any arrangement of remaining flowers; But Who Can Paint Like Nature, a mass arrangement of fall foli age; and A Motion and a Spirit that Impels, a line arrangement of branches or vines from gsrden or roadside. A small amount of plant mate rial is used in a line arrangement. It is chosen to emphasixe particu lar beauty of growth and is ar ranged simply for balance and pattern. Formal mass arrangements are usually symmetrical in contour. Informal mass arrangements may be more irregular and have an airy effect. Design is achieved by use of color and variety of form.
