W. Garner Miss Nina Garner and T. R. Gar ner attended the NCEA dinner in New Bern Thursday evening. Mrs. Mattie Guthrie, Mrs. Edgar Hibbs and little son, Rocky, were business visitors in Greenville Fri day. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Garner of Wilson and Mrs. W. G. Garner of Greenville were here Sunday with Mrs. Lila Garner. Mrs. Marvin Herrington and chil dren of Norfolk, Va., visited Mrs. Zora Garner Sunday. Mrs. J. S. Neal, who had been here several days, returned to her home in Nor folk with them. Those attending the NC meeting on Christian higher education in Raleigh on Monday were Mrs. Rena Edwards, Mrs. T. R. Garner, the Rev. Ralph Fleming, Milton Warren, W. V. Garner, J. H. Thrower, Gerald Merrill and Harry Lockey. Mrs. Tom Roberts, wife of the Church of Christ preacher, waa called to California Saturday be cause of the death of her father and mother in an automobile acci dent. Bridge Club Meets Mrs. Charles H. Lockey was hos tess to the bridge club Friday eve ning. Mrs. Walter D. Roberts won high score and Mrs. Parker Guthrie won second high. Nuts and mints were enjoyed during play and later the hostess served chicken salad sandwiches, potato chips and colas. Circles Meet Mrs. R. K. Montague was hos tess to the Susannah Wesley Circle Monday evening. Eleven members and two visitors were present. Mrs. Irene Trower gave the program, using for her theme, "Medicine in Bible Times." During the business meeting the members voted (or their circle to sponsor the Girl Scout troop, and for Mrs. Trower to be a member of the council. Refreshments of pineapple upside down cake and coffee were served by the hostess. The Gertie Howard Circle met with Mrs. Harvey Adams on Tues day evening. Mrs. May Adams gave the program. A routine business session fol lowed, and during the social hour the hostess served gripe pie witb coffee. The Lib Mauney Circle met witb Mrs. J. G. Thomas en Tuesday evening with seven member* pres ent. Mrs. Mattie Guthrie, chair man, was absent and Mrs. Edgar Hibbs presided and presented the program. She used for her theme "How t? Worship and Pray." After the business session, the group enjoyed a social hour and refreshments of German chocolate cake with coffee. Seven members were present when the Mary C. Millis Circle met with Mrs. Harry Lockey Tuesday evening. Mrs. R. C. Garner, chairman, could not be present and Mrs. Mil ton Warren opened the meeting with the 67th psalm, and then read the words of "O Young and Fear less Prophet." Lewis, 29, aon of Ur. and Mrs. Jordan Lewis, Stacy, recent ly completed the 11-week Nike Hercules guided missile electronic materiel maintenance course at the Army Air Defense School, Fort Bliss, Tex. Sergeant Lewis arrived at Fort Bliss from an assignment at Fort Knox, Ky. He entered the Army in 1948 upon graduation from At lantic High School. Curtis F. Willis, boatswain's mate first clasi, USN, son of Mrs. Obb O. Willis of SOS Shepard St., Morehead City, is serving at the US Naval Support activity, Naples, Italy. Located about two miles west of the central section 61 Naples, the activity provides support for United States Military personnel stationed in southern Italy, and also for elements of the United States Sixth fleet. Fort Jackson, S. C.? Pvt. Alton W. Paul, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Paul, Davis, is receiving eight weeks of basic combat train ing at Fort Jackson, S. C. The training is scheduled to be com pleted Oct. II. Paul was graduated from Smyr na High School in 1833. Lackland AFB, Tex. ? Airman Gene A. Blanton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Boyce F. Barefoot, Newport, has completed his initial course of Air Force basic military train ing here. He has been selected to attend the technical training course for Aircraft and Missile Maintenance at Sheppard AFB, Tex. Airman Blanton is a graduate of Swansboro High School. Basic airmen at Lackland are se lected for specialized training at technical schools on the basis of their interests and aptitudes. They are reassigned to the school after four weeks of basic, and are given sie Herrington Circle was held at the home of Mrs. Esther Edwards with nine members present. Illustrated posters on human rigUs were used to impress mem bers that eternal vigilance is the price of liberty. Scripture verses interpreted by drawings gave answers to the question, "Are we seeking these rights for all peo ples?" A discussion period fal lowed. The business meeting wM opened by Mrs. Minnie Thrower, chairman. The minutes were read and treasurer's report given. The circle project for the coming year will be the furnishing and care at the church nursery. By unanimous vote the Christ mas party will be at the Decem ber Circle meeting sad the Christ mas program at the general meet ing, WSCS. Willis, 23, whose wife, Anna Frances, lives at Harkers Island, recently completed his MP schooling at Fort Gordon, Ga. Willis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sammie Willis of Harkers Island, is a 1053 graduate of Smyrna High School. He entered the army May 21 and received his basic training at Fort Jackson, S. C.
