W. S. King Crowns Qu*ens W. 8. Kinf High School celebrated its first Homecoming in October. The above students were crowned queens. Left to right are Deborah Monroe, second grid*, primary department queen; Helen Parmley, junior, high school queen; and Sharon Monroe, grammar grade queen. Sharon and Deborah are listen, daughters of Mr. and Mrc. Douglas Monroe of Morehead City. Helen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Parmley of Newport. Helen is a popular junior. She is active in Glee Club, Dramatic Club, Student Coun cil and Scieuc* Club. Carteret-Craven Co-Op Nominates Nine Directors If recommendations of the nom inating committee are carried out. all director! of Carteret-Craven Electric Membership Corp. will return to office for another year. Election of directors of the rural electric cooperative will be held at the annual meeting Saturday, Dec. 6, 1958, at the Morehead City High School. Nine members of the coopera tive served on the nominating com mittee. They elected Floyd M. Garner of Newport as their chair man and proceeded to review the operations of the cooperative as it relates to service to members, rates, financial condition, and equity of members in the growing and successful enterprise. Others serving on the nominat ing committee were Mrs. L. N. Conner, Harlowe; J. C. Barker, Stella; Ben Watson Straits; John R. Williams, Crab Point; Lester L. Hall Sr., Gales Creek; Leon Weeks, Bogue; Roger Bell, Have lock; and Arlie Daniels, Cedar Is land. The attendance of all the nom inating committee was in itself a good Indication of the interest the members take lri the auccess of the enterprise, commented W. C. Carlton, manager of the firm. Now serving as directors and nominated to be returned to office are George W. Ball, Harlowe; L. W. PeUetier, Stella; Gordon K. Laughton, Crab Point; Clarence E. Millis, Newport; Roger W. Jones, Broad Creek; Earl C. Day, Cedar Island; Everett* Koonce, Bogue; Gilbert Whitehurst, Straits; and W. J. Wynne Jr., Havelock. Over 100 years of service to the cooperative as directors Is repre sented by those now on the board. Their duties are to set policies, re view operations and check results, approve contractual obligations, and to make other major decisions that go with the overall manage ment of the cooperative. The officers will report to the members at the annual meeting on the 1958 operations. The meet ing will begin at 10 o'clock on Sat urday, Dec. 6, and other nomina tions for directors can be made at the meeting by any member. ' i Mm* Ana ^ ^ Nov. I? The Rev. Flynn Gold ion, US Army, sta tioned in Germany, arrived home to spend his leave with his mother, Mrs Eddie Maaotti. Mr. and Mrs. Will Dail of North River, apent Sunday afternoon in the community. Mr. and Mrs. Jobnie McKay and little daughter spent Sunday with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. F. Tay lor, Bachelor. Mr. Tommy Russell motored to New Bern Tuesday to see Dr. Francef King. Mr. and Mrs. Arlle Fodrie and children, Newport, spent Sunday afternoon with his mother, Mrs. Fannie Fodrfe Mrs. Gladys Rhue and girls were the guest of the George Rus aells, Sunday. The Luna Russell Bible Class members met at the church Mon day night. Nov. 15 is Deadline To Apply for NROTC High school seniors and grad uates have only until Nov. 15 to apply for the Navy's Reserve Of ficer Training Corps. VAdm. H. P. Smith, Chief of Naval Person- 1 nel, said today. Applicants will take the nationwide competitive examination Dec. 13 as the first step toward an appointment as midshipman. Designed to supplement the offi cer output of the Naval Academy, the NROTC program makei it possible for a young man to earn a regular commission while study ing at the civilian college of his choice which has an NROTC unit. All tuition, fees and books are furnished by the Navy, and the student receives an annual retain er of MOO for four years. During the summers the student goes on training cruises to many parts of the world. After completing the usual four year college course, he is com missioned in the regular Navy or Marine Corps and goes on active duty as a prospective career offi cer with the Navy's far-flung fleets. High school seniors and grad uates between the ages of 17 and 21 may apply for the NROTC ap titude test. Those who make a qualifying score will be given a rigid physical exam in 1950. From the pool of qualified young men remaining in competition, approx imately l.too will be selected to begin their naval careers next September. The NROTC college training pro gram Is also open to enlisted men on active duty with the Navy and Marines. Separate quotas are es tablished tor applicants from with in these services.
