Beaufort Business Sections % Greet Santa with New Look Beaufort's business sections* greet Santa Claus this year with a new (ace. On Front Street, Herring's Jew elry store is now located in the store formerly occupied by B. A. Bell. The new location provides more space, and Jarvis Herring, owner and manager, has gift items In the jewelry line that will please even the most particular. la the store formerly occupied by Herring's is the Bargain Center, dealing in new and second-hand clothing. Stamper's Jewelry has moved from its former location on the south side of Front Street to the ?fore formerly occupied by Odcll Merrill's men's store. Mr. Merrill went out of business when he was elected register of deeds. A new Front Street shop is the Bob 'n Sue shop, specializing in children's clothing. It is located in the store formerly occupied by Styron's. Economy Appliance, next to the Beauty Bar, is in the process of going out of business, and the Whiteway Laundry substation, a trailer, has been moved. Whiteway Laundry, with its main location in Morehead City, has gone out of business. A new business on Craven Street is the Service Shoe shop, in the location formerly occupied by Eastern Rulane. In the Live Oak Street business scction is the new building put up by Carl Hatscll. electrician. The building is located on the property used at one time as a car lot by Dick Parker, In the former IliDrive location is the Do-Nut House, across high way 70 from Beaufort School. Mrs. Maltby Taylor is spcDding a few weeks with her sons, Dan and Leslie, in West Palm Beach. She is expected to return Wednesday. Miss Louetta Belle Taylor, Lum brrton, spent the holiday weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. II. C. Taylor Sr. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Fulcher, of Virginia, spent Saturday here with friends. Andrew lived here when a kid. He was delighted with the many improvements and we were glad to see him. Mrs. Ulmont Rose, who has been a patient in the hospital here, is bow spending a few weeks with fcer daughter, Mrs. Charles Owens and family in Beaufort. Mrs. Careda Salter spent the weekend in Swansboro with her ton, state patrolman Rodger Gar land, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Howerin, Beaufort, were visitors in our com munity Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Lem Hardy attend ed services at the Free Will Bap tist Church Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ward Hicks re turned to their home in Bristol, Tenn., after spending two weeks with Mrs. Ward's sister, Mrs. Weldon Salter and family. Miss Sally Tosto, Louisburg, and her brother, Paul, and family of Raleigh, spent Thanksgiving with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wood row Tosto. Mrs. Mollic Willis spent Thanks riving at the old homestead of her parents in Smyrna. Her bro thers and sisters were present for this occasion. Anadarko, Okla. (AP) ? Basketball season opened last Thursday and Friday night with a bang. The Seadogs defeated Pamlico Thursday night and New Bern Friday. Never before have our teams been in such good condition. The large crowd that was present at the game Friday night was evidence that the lieaufort fans are really going to support their team and I'm sure it gave the team a good feeling. We, the students at B11S, are especially proud of Gordon Becton for making the class A All-Eastern football team and John Smith and Eddie Taylor for being honorably mentioned. The Glee Club performed for the teachers' meeting Tuesday after noon. The program consisted of eight numbers. College day will be held at the Beaufort School today. Representa tives from many different colleges will be present. Miss Senior this week is Miss Nancy Fay Pittman. Nancy was born to Mr. and Mrs. William E. Pittman on Dec. 12, 1940. She stands 5* 5" tall and weighs 120 pounds. Her favorite food is steak. The song that rates tops with her is It's Only Make Believe. The artists she enjoys listening to are Johnny Mathis and Pat Boone. Her pet peeve is "people who go around trying to cause trouble." Her future plans are to get a job in secretarial work. She was voted the prettiest girl in the senior clasi. While in high school she has been a member of the Glee Club, senior superlative, FHA, Lambi Chi, and Prayer Group. Geodetic Team Will Survey Coast South of Morehead A triangulation survey, which will covcr an area of slightly more than 3,600 square miles in eastern North Carolina, is now being made by a 30-man field party of the Coast and Geodetic Survey. Chief of party, Lcdr. William E. Ran dall, estimated thai the survey, covering a 40-mile wide strip be tween Seaboard, N. C., near the Virginia state line, and Morehcad City, should be completed in three or four months. The survey, which consists of determining and marking the geo graphic positions of selected points, will be used primarily by the Geo logical Survey for future mapping. These points, marked with small bronze discs, will be scattered throughout the area and spaced at 4 to S mile intervals along the main roads. The party of 90 (including wives and children) arrived at their trailer park, southeast of Ahoskic, N. C., on Nov. 21. Its equipment includes 27 trucks, two office trailers, one supply trailer, and 21 privately-owned mobile homes. Someday you may notice a slen der steel tower silhouetted against the skyline, or at night tbc blink ing of lights in Morse code may catch your eye. These strange sights coupled with the busy move ment of men and trucks may cause some of the local residents to stop and think. But don't worry, these sights, though unfamiliar to the area, are actually part of one of the oldest Library to Close Christinas Week The county library, Bread and Pollock Street!, Beaufort, will be cloaed Christmas week, Dec. 22 through Dec. 27. Mr. and Mrs. Danny Garrish had as their weekend guests, Mr. and Mrs. Doward Brugh of Norfolk. Mrs. Neafie Scarborough was reelected president of Circle 1 of the Woman's Society of the Meth odist Church. Mrs. Mabel Gaskill will again serve as vice-president, and Mrs. Ruby Garrish as treas urer. This Circle and Circle 2 will enjoy together tomorrow, Tuesday night, their annual Christmas sup per party. Willie B. Hunnings, who has been hospitalized in Washington, N. C., is expected home on Friday. On Sunday night, Dec. 21, the choir of the Methodist Church will present a cantata, as part of the regular evening service. At its December meeting the Ocracoke Civic Club voted to ex press a resolution of thanks and appreciation to the Taylor bro thers of Sea Level for their plans to put on ferry service between here and Cedar Island. the northern states and they grad ually move south with the sun.
