Bridge Repairs Core Creek Bridge across the At lantic Intracoastal Waterway near Beaufort, will not open to water traffic from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tues day, Dec. 30, due to repairs being made on the bridge machinery. Judges (or the contest, left to right, Bud Dixon, Mrs. A. B. Roberts and Lockwood Phillips. Truman Kemp won the More head City Jaycee-sponsored My True Security script writing and delivery contest Tuesday morning. The contest, judged in chapel ser vices at Morehead City High School, was open to seniors only. Truman won a $25 savings bond and a certificate. Walter Morris and Charles Lynch, co-equal run ners-up. won $10 savings accounts donated by First-Citizens and Com mercial National Banks. Others entered in the contest were Ashley Jarman, Clarence Styron and Jimmy McElroy. The judges gave points for con sent, originality and delivery of the scripts. The object of each script was to khow the importance of initiative and self-reliancc in providing a secure future for the individual. A tape recording of Truman's winning Speech will be sent to a district hearing. District winners will be sent to a state contest and state contest winners will be given expense-paid trips to Washington for the national finals. Judges for the conteat were Bud Dixon, president of the Morchead City Chamber of Commerce, Lock wood Phillips, publisher of THE NEWS-TIMES, and Urs. A. B. Roberts. Junior, Adult Join in Carol The Junior Churchgoers' Choir will join the adult choir in the pres entation of the annual Christmas carol service in First Methodist Church, Morchcad City, Sunday at 7:30. This is the first time the two choirs have sung a number writ ten especially for mixed voices and children's choir. The number is a traditional Christmas carol, The Snow Lay on the Ground, arranged by Henry Hallstrom of Fred War ing's organization. In addition, the Junior Church goers' Choir will sing a favorite of the congregation, The Friendly Beasts, with solo parts by Donna Wilkins, Carol Willis, Madelyn Kemp, Grace Roberts, Jim Chalk, Douglas Freeman, Tommy Free man, Bobby Guthrie, Rudy Lucas, Henry White and Dewey Willis. The Rev. J. F. Herbert, pastor at First Church, Is director of the Junior Churchgoers' Choir. His assistant U Mrs. Marion Mills. r residing officer at the carol service will be Truman D. Kemp. A favorite with the choir is What Child Is This?, an arrangement of the lovely old English tune. Green sleeves. Solo parts will be lung by Mrs. Clifton Lynch, soprano, and Ethan Davis Jr., baritone. A beautiful Polish Christmas lul laby, Sleep, Thou, My Jewel, will be followed by the vigoroui tradi tional French carol, Masters in This Hall. Climaxing the program will be Mozart's Gloria in Excelsis. The public is cordially Invited to attend this service and all the ser vices at First Church. At the morning service the Rev. W. N. McDonald will occupy the pulpit. Mr. McDonald is head of the department of religion at Louisburg College. He has preach ed at the church before and the congregation is always most happy to welcome him back. On Wednesday at 7 p.m., the church will have its annual Christ mas party in the Sunday School auditorium. Santa Claus will be present to distribute gift bags. The Junior Churchgoers Choir will sing special songs. In charge of the program arc Mrs. Vesta Davis, Mrs. A. B. Cooper, Mrs. Fred Lewis, and Mrs. A. L. Brinson. On Christmas Day the Rev. Jesse Staton of Morehead City will con duct a Communion service at II a.m. The church will be open dur ing the day for those who desire to worship. The official board met at our church last Thuraday night. Many business matters were taken up and discussed. Mrs. Reginald Garner of New port visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hill, last Sunday. Mrs. Neva Dail visited Mrs. Luna Russell last Saturday after noon. Miss Paula Beachcm returned home last week from Cherry Point hospital. She had undergone sur gery the week before. Mr. Claude Martin was rushed to Morehead City hospital this morning in a very serious condi tion. We are hoping that he will soon be feeling better. Chief George W. Collins Jr. will arrive here Saturday and spend the weekend with his mother, Mrs. Lutie Collins. They will leave Sun day afternoon for Norfolk where she will spend the holldaya. Mr. Ottis Lee Warren is a pa tient in Sea Level hospital, lldpe he will soon be able to return home. The North River Home Demon stration Club met laat Thursday for our annual Christmas program at the home of Mrs. Billy Smith. After the devotional Christmas carols were sung. Mrs. Smith had a very beautiful decorated Christ mas tree under which our gifts were placed to be exchanged with each other. During the social hour Mrs. Smith served jello with whipped cream and cookies. The WSCS met at the church last Monday night. The program was given by Miss Inei Fclton. It waa very interesting. We didn't exchange gifts there but will do so Sunday afternoon when the member* meet to fix their sunshine boxes (Or the sick and shut-ins at the home of Mrs. Neva Dail.
