A reader told me Saturday that he enjoyed reading my colums which included recipes and com ments along with the news. That was a reminder that I hadn’t given i recipe for a long time." Several people consider my husband an expert at making toss salad. Ho always tries to get as many dif ferent fresh vegetables' as pos sible. One time we counted ten vegetables. Then : he uses this homemade French dressing- I found it in an advrtisement for Mazola, but we have used several different kinds of salad oil FRENCH DRESSING 1 1-3 cups salad oil 1 , 1-3 cup vinegar, 1-3 cup lemon juice, 1 clove garlic, *4 tsp. dry mustard 1 tsp. sugar, 114 tsp. salt, 2 tsp. paprika, few grains cayenne Measure all ingredients into bottle or jar. Cover tightly and shake well. Chill several hours then remove garlic. Shake thor oughly before serving. I hope you have made the green tomato mince for which I gave the recipe last fall. I made some last week and hope to' make some more. Isn’t it wonderful for vege table, and fruit lovers that the frost has stayed away so long this year? BALD CREEK P. T A. You want to b e sure to take advantage of the large apple and pear crops. Use them in different ways-fresh, canned, baked, and make into sauce, and preserves. Harvest pumpkins and store in a warm place. Pumpkin pies are one way of gettihg more vitamin A in the diet. You may want to check the am ount of beef in your deep freeze. During the next two months beef may be lower in price, and you with home freezers might con sider purchasing beef during October and November. Use som e of those green toma toes that are left on the 'vine, if the frost hasn’t gotten them. They may be stewed, fried, used in main dish casseroles or even as a dessert.
