RALPH BOSTAIN Ralph Bostain, 42, former ly of Burnsville and a resident of Danville, California, diedi unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack while on a busL - ness trip in South America on Saturday. He was an employ ee of a heavy equipment firm (from Chicago). Surviving are the wife,Bet ty Oberta Bostain; one daugh ter, Elizabeth Ann and one son, Ralph H. Bostain Jr. all of Danville, California; two sis ters, Mrs. Ruth Hughes of Micaville, N.C. and Mrs. Lo uise Ward of Owensboro, Ky; 2 brothers, Herman Bostain of Toms River, N.J. and F. P. Bostain of Freeman, W. Vir - ginia. The body is being returned to Spring Valley, Illinois where funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon. RAY ENGLISH Ray English, 55, of Jacks Creek Community, died Thm day morning at his home. Dr. Melvin W. Webb, cey County coroner, ruled the death was due to a self-inflic ted gunshot wound. Mr. English was a veteran of World War EE, a farmer and a lifelong resident of Yancey County. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Irene Rice English; a daughter, Miss Glenn Ella Eng lish of the home; and a sister, Mrs. Mary Ann Ray of Ashe - ville. Funeral Services were held at 3:00 p. m. Saturday in the chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Revs. Frank Phillips and Beit Styles offi ciated and burial was in the Briggs Cemetery. LEE BALL Lee Ball, 94, of the River side Community died at his home Wednesday night after a long illness. He was a life long resident of Yancey Coun ty--a retired lumberman and farmer. Surviving are the wife,Bes sie Austin Ball; three daughters, Mrs. George Blankenship of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. James Marino of Middletown, Conn, and Mrs. William Higgins of Burnsville; one son, Clarence Ball of Mt. View, Calif; one sister, Mrs. Charlie Maney of Burnsville Rt. 3; two brothers, William G. Ball and Jim Ball of Burnsville Route 1; 4 grand children, 5 great-grandchild ren and 2 great-great- grand children also survive. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:00 p. m. in the West Buns ville Baptist Church. Rev. Fred Harrell, Rev. Rich ard Buchanan and Mr. B. M. Tomberlin officiated and bur ial was in the church ceme - tery. W. RUSSELL YORK W, Russell York, 42,0 f 29 Linden Avenue, died Monday morning in an Asheville hos pital after a long illness. A native of Yancey County and a son of Mrs. Willie Kate Ray York of Burnsville and the late Thomas H. York, he re tired two years ago from Pilot Freight Carriers after 10 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to the mother are his wife, Mrs .Be tty Ray Hensley York; a son, Tho mas Leslie, and two daughters, Misses Julia Lenora and Mary Katherine York, all of the home; two brothers, David of Burnsville and Edward B. York of Raleigh; four sisters,Misses Virginia and Lois York and Mrs. Clarence Ledford, all of Burns ville and Mrs. George Joyce of Mars Hill; and several nei ces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Morris Funeral Home. Revs. Gordon B. Hux and Harlon Ramsey officiated and burial was in the Gre en Hills Cemetery. Bailey, 63, of Fountain City, Tennessee and a native of Yancey County died on Saturday March 27 at 11:35 a. m., at St. Mary's Hos pital, He was a member of Fountain City Presbyterian Church and a salesman with Rice Oldsmobile, Inc. Surviving are Mrs. Edwina Wing Bailey, Mrs. Howard (Sir) Boring, Mrs. Linda Bryant, Craig O. Bailey, Mrs. Claude Peterson, Mrs. Wm. Wilson, Mrs. Ralph Sams, Col. Jack Bailey, M. I, Bailey, Kimberlee, Pamela and Mark Boring,Craig Bailey Jr., Joseph and Richard Bryant. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p, m. Monday in Gen try's Chapel with Dr. Don R. Brandon officiating. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery. WALTER C. WILSON Walter C. Wilson, 53, of the Busick Community, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday night. He was a veteran of World War IT and was employed by the U.S. Forest Service. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Dolly Huskins Wi 1 s on; three daughters, Mrs. Stephen Brewer of Marion,Mrs.Charls Wilson and Mrs. Gary Holli - field, both of Burnsville Rt.s; three sisters, Mrs, Robert Shu ford and Miss Joyce Wilson of Burnsville Rt. 5 and Mrs. Lu ther Berryhill of Marion; three brothers, John R. of Burnsville, Ransom of Marion and Emnett Wilson of Forest City; and two grandchildren. Funeral Services were held at 2:30 p. m. Sunday in Mt. Mitchell Baptist Church where he was a member. The Revs. Charles Willis and Shelby Car roll officiated and burial was in Fairview Cemetery. Student Teacher Appalachian State Universi ty senior Kenneth Carl Nelson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Nelson of Burnsville, is now completing his requirements for graduation through a three month student teaching assign ment. He is teaching history at Harris High School, Spruce Pine. Kenneth, a 1967 graduate of East Yancey High School, will have completed his assign ment on May 27. Dean’s List Linda M. Deyton has been named to the winter quarter Dean's List for scholastic achievement at Berry College. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Deyton, Burnsville , and a graduate of East Yancey High School. The minimum grade stan dard for the Berry Dean's List is a 3.5 average, and students must be enrolled in at least 12 quarter hours to be eligible.
