NELLIE EDWARDS
Mrs. Nellie Howard Edwards,
80, of the Cox Creek section
of Yancey County, died early
Friday at the home of a daugh
ter, Mis. Fonze Whitson after
a long illness.
She was the widow of Ro
bert Edwards, who died in 1966.
Surviving in addition to
Mrs. Whitson are another tigh
ter, Mrs. Ed Childers of Swan
nanoa; a foster daughter, Mrs.
Elaine Canipe of Kenneth
Square, Pa.; a foster son, Mr.
Keith Edwards of Qiltimore; 2
sisters, Mb. Sallie Mullen of
Pleasant Hill, Tenn. and Mrs.
Mabel Griswold of Asheville;
three grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
at 2:30 p.m. Sunday inßyrdfc
Chapel Baptist Church of which
she was a member. Re vs .Burl
Grindstaff and William Pate
officiated and burial was in
the Edwards Cemetery on Cox
Creek.
ALF HYLEMON
Alf Hylemon of the Swiss
Community of Yancey County
died Sunday afternoon in a
Blowing Rock nursing home
after an extended illness. He
was 100 years old.
Funeral services were held
at 2:00 p. m. Tuesday in the
chapel of Holcombe Brothers
Funeral Home. Revs. Ray
and E. J. Hall officiated and

Cemetery.
A native of Yancey County
and reputed to be the county's
oldest citizen, Mr. Hylemon
was a retired farmer.
Surviving are his wife, Mb.
Bertha Edwards Hylemon;three
sons, Walter of Churchill, Tarn,
John of Burnsville and George
Hylemon of Richmond, Va* a
sister, Mrs. Sallie Harris of
Spartanburg, S.C.; 23 grand
children, 87 great-grandchild
ren and 13 great-great-grand
children.

Florida, died Monday,June 7
in Miami. Formerly of Mar
tinsville, Virginia and Ashe
ville, he was vice - president

loper of Coconut Creek, Fla.,
a member of Lofley Hins e n
American Legion Post, Mt.
Hermon Lodge #llß of Ashe -
ville and Board of Realtors of
Pompano 3each.
Surviving are the wife, Lu -
cille and sister, Mrs. Herbert
Thomas of Tampa, Florida.
He also had relatives in Yan
cey County.
Funeral services were held
at 300 p. m. Wednesday and
burial was in Forest Lawi
Cemetery, Pompano Beach.

Public Notice is hereby given
that Carolina Power G Light
Company ("CPGL") and French
Broad Electric Membership Cor
poration ("French Broad"),each
of which is engaged in distribu
ting and selling electric power
and energy filed with the North
Carolina Utilities Commission
an application for the reassign
ment of electric service areas
in Yancey County and thetra®-
fer of certain facilities and cus
tomeß from CPGL to French
Broad in accordance with the
provisions of G. S. 62-110.2(c)
(2) and G.S. 62-110.2(d) (1)
and filed with such applicatioi
a map showing the proposed
area to be reassigned from being
designated as "unassigned" to
being assigned to French Broad,
which area is located along
and near U. S. Highway 19 in
the vicinity of Bald Creek and
Swiss.
Notice to the public is fur
ther given that the map filed
with the Commission and show
ing the area proposed to be
reassigned is available for in
spection, and information

assignment of territory and trans
fer of customeß and facilities
subject to the publication of

reassignment and transfer.

any protest to the approval of
the application by June 25,1971,
the Commission's approvalwill
