THE YANCEY RECORD PAGE 4 Workshop To Bo Hold Over 500 music and class room teachers will be singing, dancing, and playing musical instruments this summer in an effort to learn new methods of teaching music. The State Education Agency is offering classroom teachers across the state an opportunity to parti - cipate in a series of 8-d a y workshops set up in twelve lo cations. On June 14-23 a workshop will be held at East Yance y High School in Burnsville for teachers of Elementary Schools K-8. Consultant forthat work ship which will run each day from 8 ! 30 to 12:30, will be Miss Sandra Starnes of Greens boro. Ruth Jewell, Music con sultant for the State Education Agency, is in charge of the statewide workshop series. According to James Hall, Cultural Arts Director for the State Education Agency, the purpose of the workshops is to involve teachers in musical ex periences. They will not only learn new methods of teaching music, but it is hoped they will also gain a better appreciation of the musical experiences they can offer their pupils, ad ded Hall, The workshop series, noted State Superintendent A. Yancey County's delegates are (left to right) Mike Hopson, John Blair, Agricultural Exten sion Agent, and Kay Honeycutt. Special Lions Club Program Leo Simpson Jr., manager of the Kentown Corporation at Bamardsville, will be the guest speaker at the annual installa tion of officers and ladies night of the Burnsville Lions Club, Thursday night, June 10. Leo Simpson is a member of the Beaverdam Lions Club at Asheville and has presented programs to many clubs. A feature of the program will be a style show with Yancey Coun ty employees of Kentown mo deling hot pants, pant suits , and dresses made by the com pany. All Lions are urged to be present and invite afriaid who is interested in becoming a lion. Howard Garland, Mrs. Jerry Garland and Mrs .Andrew Johnson were hostesses for a household shower honoring Miss Patricia Letterman,bride- elect of Mr. Gary Whitson. The shower was held in the Brush Creek Community Building on Saturday, June sth. Miss Letterman received many love ly gifts. Mrs. Willis Brfttian visited her sister, Miss Lydia Deyton, during the weekend. The two ladies also visited their brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Deyton in Burnsville on Saturday afternoon. ’Mo!* Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hopson and Roger of Shelby, N.C., vi sited Joe's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dempsey Hopson during Memorial Day weekend. Mrs. Hopson went home with them for a short visit. Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Almond of Atlanta, Ga. visited Mrs. Almond's sister, Mrs. John Blair during the weekend. *** Plans are in the making for a Bible School, combining the Deyton Bend and Red Hill Methodist Churches and the Ridgeview Presbyterian Church to begin June 14th at the view Church. Calvin Boone One of the Deacons of the church is in charge of the Ser vice on the sth Sunday night at Double Island Church. Roy Roberson was in chaige May 30. Visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Howell, Mr. and Mrs. Riddle, Mr. and Mis. Twig from New Hope Church in Spruce Pine. • • Rev. Arthur Woody, Dewey Hoilman and Frank Thomas visited Edd Hensley in Mem orial Mission Hospital in Ashe ville June 4. • • The church will have Bible Study starting June 14. The teachers will be Rev. Arthur Woody, Mr. J. B, Thomas, Mrs. Gertrude Boone and Mis.
