The campaign co- chair
men Roy Ray and Ardell Sink
expressed themselves as en
couraged by the early response
already shown. With a mini
mum amount of pre-campaigi
solicitation, there are already
nineteen names on the "Cen
tury Club" list, made up of
those contributors who have
given SIOO or more. This
Century Club list is shown else
where in this issue of the Yan
cey Record, and will be added
to as the campaign progresses.
Large, eye-catching ther
mometers are being erected
at both ends of the Burnsville
Town Square, which will re
cord the drive progress. This
early in the campaign it is
difficult to tell just how things
are going from day to day, and
the red indicators on the ther
mometers may lag due to fail
ure of reports to come in. The
campaign committee urges
volunteer workers to turn in
reports promptly.

Panthers Top
Cane River
By Robert Howard
The East Yancey Panthers
won their second game over
the Rebels of Cane River.
The Rebels scored in the
first quarter, but their two
point conversion failed because
of a strong Panther defense.
Darrell Boone of East Yan
cey was injured, so Coach
Bennett put James Norris in
Boone's place. Boone re-en
tered in the later part of the
second half.
At halftime the score re
mained East Yancey 0, Cane
River 6.
Boone and his strong of
fense scored in the third quar
ter to put East Yancey up with
the Rebels, so Boone and his
offense tried for the two point
conversion which was success
ful.
The score remained 8 to
6 Panthers, all through the
third and fourth quarters.
