Evelyn Hoyle Rt. 3, Bakeßville The many Wends and rela tives of Mr. George S. Greene of Kinston, N.C. were sur - prised and sorry to hear that he had passed away suddenly, March 28, as a result of heart attack. He was better known biy Wends in this community as Bascom Greene. He lived a long and useful life and he passed away at the age of 87. He lived in the Lily Branch Community until he was in his early twenties. There are a lew who still remember that he taught in the local school at Lily Branch in the year 1903 and again in 1904. The following year, 1905, he taught the local school near Penland, N.C, He attended school at Ba keßville ’vh-m. he was a teen ager and later on he attended school at Man Hill College. After leaving college hevtork ed at different places in the Spruce Pine vicinity. Among them, bookkeeper for the J.E. Burleson Mica Company, After leaving Spruce Pine, he attended the National Bus iness College, Roanoke, Va. after which he worked in a i law office in Denver, Colo, for two years. He then re turned to N. C, and worked for awhile in a local bank. He returned to die Business College and accepted a posi tion in a law office in Kin ston, N. C. where he has- r e mained since that time. He took die law examination him self about the year 1920 and has had hk own law office in Kinston since that time. He served on the State Board of Law Examines for mere than 35 years. He has signed the Law of more than half of the lawyer* in North Carolina. , Come of the "old timeis" In the Lily Branch Communi ty still remember he took a Sunday. He became a member of the church at the age of 15. . He served as choir leader and he also sang in the local quartet. Later he moved his membeship to the Fist Baptist Church, Kin ston, N.C. * , He was always modest, * unassuming, and was anxious to be of service rather than to have publicity.
