Homemakers Meeting The Burnsville Homemakers dub met Friday at the home of Mrs. Winnie Lou Ray with 22 members and guests present. The meeting was opened by readings by Mrs. Theresa Mc- Clelland. These consisted of 'Tranquility" from the book, "The Living Life " and "A para ble of a Young Mother" from "Family Life. " Mrs. Martha Pftesmeyer pre sided over the meeting. Mrs. Margaret Deyton presented a very interesting and timely program on freezer sandwiches for meals "Let's make a good one".. ‘The minutes of the last meeting and the treasurers report vrere read by Nfrs. Ther esa McClellan. Mrs. Mary Gillespie gave as interesting report an the district meeting. Mis. Mary Lou Edwards repre sented the dds it the recent meeting of the "Cleas Sweep 73" program uni she a report an the meecbg. Mem bers discussed ways of helping with the program. Perhaps if you inform them that at one time the lowly cabbage was grown only for royalty, it will add respect for this very nutri tious and easily grown vegetab le. We don't know how true this story is, but like Will Ro gers—all we know is what we read in the papers. Here is a cabbage recipe called: CABBAGE FOR A KING 3 tbsp. cooking oil 1/2 cup chopped onion Saute onion in oil a few mi nutes and add 2 tblsp. flour. Mix well; add 2 cups canned tomatoes, 2 tsp. Worcestetshic sauce, 3/4 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. sugar and a dash of pepper. Simmer a few minutes. Not so last Thurs- cabbage in a casserole dish. Pour sauce over and top with 3 slices of stale bread crumbled; 1 tblsp. butter and 1/4 cup shredded cheese. Mix and sprinkle over cabbage. Bake in oven until bubbly hot. This Chicken and Trees re cipe comes from Betty McDon ald of the Happy Homemakers Chib: CHICKEN G TREES 8 chicken breasts 1 pkg. frozen broccoli 1 can cream of chicken soup 1 can cream of celery soup 2/ 3 cup milk 2 cups bread crumbs 1/2 cup melted butter 1 cup cracker barrel cheese Cook broccoli according to package. Drain. Place on bot tom of casserole. Debone the chicken breasts which have b«»r. stewed or baked. Place this in layer over broccoli. Combine soup and milk. Pour over chic ken and broccoli, cover this with bread crumbs. Pour butter over crumbs. Top with grated cheese. Bake 25-30 min. at 350 degrees until it bubbles around the edge.
