Several items of interest to Democrats of Yancey County will be shared during the Social Security Questions Cf. 1 was told that if I apply for supplemental security income the things I own may make me ineligible, even though I don’t have any money coming in to speak of. Is this true? A. Possibly. But you should check with your social security office and let them ‘determine if your countable resources exceed the limit. If you exceed the limit by a small amount you may still County Democratic Conven tion. Q. I find I have to wait longer when I go to a social security office now than 1 did several years ago. What happened? A. Social security office traffic has increased in recent years, particularly since the Social Security Administra tion began administering the supplemental security income program for the aged, blind, , and disabled. One way to avoid waiting is to call first and conduct your social security business by phone, whenever possible. If you must visit a social security office, you’ll find that the best times are the end of the week and the end of the month. . June Dairy Month Dear Editor: We were visiting your lovely town on a vacation trip and staying at a cabin op on Mitchell Road. The ••severe storm on Jane 6th brought down several large trees on our three parked cars, completely covering them with tranks and a litter of branches. Our neighbor, Mr. Higgins, got in touch with the authorities, and we were really impressed with the speedy arrival of help. We would very much like to express our appreciation to the Yancey County Rescue Squad, who showed up even before the rain had subsided; die officers from the Burnsville Police and the Highway Patrol, and the towing service from Roberts Chevrolet service. The efficiency and friendly helpfulness of these gendemen and others in your town are the happy memories we took home with us. Sincerely, Esther V. Flory, Snow Hill, Md. Doris J. Boiler, Wilmington, Delaware Helen Dike, Rochester, N.Y. Sally Decker, Wilmington, Delaware Dear Editor: (hi behalf of the Yancey County Chamber of Commerce I would like to take this means of expressing our gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Troy McCurry for die time and expense both of them have Incurred in locating and planting the beautiful flowers which highlight our Town Square. “You both have set examples for all the citizens of this county to look up to and follow. We, at the Chamber, are proud to be associated with you.” The Chamber expresses its thanks and warm regards. r Sincerely yours, Richard G. MiUer, President Dear Editor: We, the senior citizens and beneficiaries of the services rendered by the WAMY Organization of Yancey County give our response to the fallacious charges made against the organization by Mrs. Nona Hensley, according to “the way she sees it.” ' We, the senior citizens would like to inform the general public that we see it from a different prospective. We see a group of honest, efficient, conscientious, godly people, dedicated to the cause of the aged, who have borne the burden and heat of the day-those who are now facing the sunset. We see them in the early morning on the winding mountain roads and in the deep glens gathering in the elderly who are sometimes poverty stricken, weak and inform; transporting them to the nutrition center where they are given five free meals every week. There the food Is wholesome and die fellowship is sweet And not one person is ever rejected because of race, color, creed, financial assets or social standing. Moreover, crafts are taught, recreation provided and inspiration found. Twice every month the van runs to Asheville and twice to Spruce Pine for the benefit of the aged. Whether for medical attention, shopping, or visitation, we have the privilege of going. And the drivers of the van often exemplify the Good Shepherd in gathering in the stray‘sheep at the end of the day. It is true, Mr. Editor, that some of the elderly have attained to the height of wealth and fame, whereas others of us possess very little of this world’s goods. But be they clothed in silk and satin, or in rags and strings, no person, the way we see it, has ever been slighted at the nutrition center. That isn’t all. The night is never too dark, too rainy, or stormy for the WAMY van to carry the sick and suffering to the hospital in an emergency. And to all those affiliated with that organization, especially Mrs. Hazel Thomas, Mrs. Mildred Gilley, Mrs. True Elliott, Mrs. Zella Buchanan, and Anita, the-Senior Citizens bid God’s speed. In the language of Paul to the saints of Thessalonka, “we thank God for you all.” Thanking you, Mr. Editor, for whatever consideration you can give for the publication of our reply to Mrs. Nona Hensley’s indictment. We are sincerely, The Senior Citizens of Y ancey County Elizabeth Hensley True Y alue Opens Rent-Repair Shop Today the True Value Rental and Repair shop opened in the rear section of the True Value Hardware in the Banks Family Square.
