Raleigh last week in an effort
to seek aid from the State of

struction of a new Health
Center for Clay Countv.
While in Raleigh this group
was told that if Item 8 in the
Bond Election passes thatClay
will be one of the first counties
to get a Health Center. Item
8 Is as follows: For or Against
Issuance of $500,000 for Hos
pital capital Improvement
bonds for the State of North
Carolina for the purpose of
orovldlng funds for par
ticipation by the State
through the Medical Care
Commission In local hospital
construction.
A Health Center is of vital
interest to every citizen in

Guests were greeted at the
door by Mrs. R. W. Myer.
The largest room of the
parish house which usually
serves as the church was ar
ranged with pews at the sides
and three long tables in the
center. On the organ was a
beautiful arrangement of fall
flowers in bronze and rust
One table was filled with
home baked specialties In
cluding shoo-fly pie and
tomato bread. At another
table, presided over by Mrs.
Harold GUlstrom were hand-.
made gifts, baby presents,
embroidered towels, laundry
bags, a wide variety of aprons,
etc.
At the tea table were cookies
of every description. Mrs.
W. L. Roberts and Mrs.
Quentln Moore took turns
pouring tea and, at the other
end of the table coffee was
poured ' by t Mrs. James
Blankenshlp and Mrs. Monroe
Wilson. Mrs. R. G. Vlck pre
sided over the kitchen and
Mrs. James Ledford helped
generally.
About seventy-people at
tended during the afternoon and
over a hundred dollars was
raised for the church building
fund.

received here that Mrs. Dora
Lessle Smith died October 21.
in the Baptist Hospital,
Winston Salem. She had been In
declining health for the past
two years and was seriously
111 for two week before death.
She was the wife of the
former pastor of Truett
Memorial Baptist Church, the
late Rev. L. P. Smith. The
Dora Smith Circle of the
Truett Memorial Baptist
Church was named for Mrs.
Smith.
