Only she didn't hope I'd soon be well, what she did was: She said she wanted to be the first to wish me a Merry Christmas. The reason I think she done that was she figured 1 was a GONER and she didn't want me to have to leave with out being wished a Merry Christmas. I reckon that's ?;Qpd, but I don't know what or. Anyhow, I'm gonna reply to her get well, 1 mean her Christmas, card in my column ? ?#? ma rainiiinivw SUGARS SffC/MS CABBAGE HI s? lb PURE PORK SAUSAGE 3 lbs 89$ NABISCO Vanilla Waters 12 Oz. MURPHY FOOD STORE I Valley River Avenue Phone 837-2524 cause I think folks oughu know about people like her. Dear Mrs. Edi Indeed, you were the first to wish me a Merry Christmas, etc. I have heard of thoughtful people In my time but you are without peer as the "most thought fullest." Now your card cer tainly put me to thlnklqg about that season of good cheer. It also caused me to begin doing my Christmas worrying a lot sooner and that Is on the minus side of the ledger. Christmas Is on the same side. But It may have some minor advan tages. too, in that since I have begun on that worrying this early maybe I can spread It a lot thinner over the distance, thereby resulting in less of a pile up right at the last minute. What usually happens is that 1 wait too late to get started on this worrying and Christ mas comes and goes before I can get It all done to save my life. There Is always a little bit of that worrying left over and it builds up a backlog sorta i like the surplus of farm pro ducts and the national debt. I estimate that I am, at least, i twenty-five years behind with | all this worrying right now. Another thing I am already worrying about Is how many shopping days til Christmas. This is a perennial problem with me and I don't see why some enterprising calendar manufacturer doesn't put that Information on his calendars. You know, so that anytime you look at it you can see how many shopping days are left. Most newspapers start car rying this information along toward the tail end of the year and I'm always a devoted read er of that particular section when they begin printing it. As soon as I get my paper that's always the first thing . I read. It's not that I'm so interested in knowing how ( many days I have left to go out and buy a lot of presents for folks that I know won't said me one, rather, it's just that I * wanta know how many more * days that misery is gonna last. J 111 bet there are lots of other folks that are devoted readers of that item just like me. c I think newspapers are c overlooking a good thing by not s carrying this information the 8 year round. They couldhavelt cover a pretty big space on a |i page and then sell some real ( prime ad space all around it. " Then when all of us folks that look forward to reading this so many shopping days thing, JJ when we found it, and read it d we couldn't help but see all these ads. And as the demand t for this particular ad space In- d creased they could diminish n the area used to tell us how many days were left. Pretty ( soon I Imagine they would have . to leave off the number of days ' left information altogether, but they would have to insert p an Editor's Note in this space ^ saying sonyfthing like this, you 5 know so you wouldn't get lost: p The information usually found d In this space, relative to the number of shopping days left f< until Christmas, can be found 11 on page so and so. Then you P see, the same idea could be * followed on die said page so ^ and so. . You can readily see that this Idea has endless poten- a rial. To tell you the truth, I'm ? surprised that somebody In the h newspaper racket, I mean J business, hasn't thought of this already. ? the newspaper peopUwUlh-sr ?bout this Idta of Wtofc 1 to* sure thst when toy * will probably went to craptoy me m ?ome kind* consultant. The reason I said 1 bc(?ed they'd hear about it wm be cause I know diat ?ery tor ? ?em ew talu time to reed their own papers. Vlhstih^f do U reed the other newspapers that come to their offices. You see being associated with newspapers like I sm. naturally. I know all about what's going on. Now ss for my looking like pope Psul VI. rm sfraid you are somewhat confused. In stead. he looks like MEl Now here is how I srrived at that cooclusiom Folks heard about me a lot* time before they ever did him. In other words, he Is just s "Johnny Come Lately" and I've been around here for A -WHILE. I sure hope that none of my Catholic friends read what I said there about Pope Paul. On the other hand. If they think that's bad they oughta see, sometimes, what I say about the Baptists and the Methodists. Yeah, I was in the Catholic hospital and I noticed that they Have adopted at least one Methodist technique. They had sprinklers installed in every room. My Mama used to predict list I would turn out to be a Methodist on account of the tinda baths I used to take. I am already looking for a Set Well Card to send you this Christmas. By the time you ?at all them Christmas ;oodles. youll be sick and my lard will sure come in handy, four friend. ;uz Terry Steve Fair Celebrates Birthday HANGlNGDOG - Mr. and drs.
