Paid at Murphy Sabin Polio Vaccine Program Announced For Clay County HAYESVQJLE -A Stop PoUo Campaign for Clay County was announced this week by the County Health Department. The Sabin oral polio vaccine will be given at five stations throughout the county on three upcoming Sundays, with the first dose scheduled for Feb ruary 9. Health Department officials pointed out this week that 20 persons in Clay were strick en by Polio nine years ago, at a time when no vaccine was available. When the Salk vac cine first became available. It was used in Clay, and there have been no cases of polio since then, but the Health Cloy March Of Dimes Campaign Now Underway HAYESV1LLE - The March of Dimes Campaign now underway in Clay County is offering donors a chance to get into the fight against crippling disease - especially birth de fects or arthritis. Clay GOP Convention Set Feb. 6 HAYESV1LLE - The Clay County bi-annual Republi can County Convention has been calledfor Thursday, Feb. 6, at 7:30 p.m. by County Chairman Bill Bradley. The Convention will be held at the County Courthouse. New party officials and delegates to the district and state conventions are to be elected at the County Con vention. Republican Womens Club To Meet Jan. 30 HAYESVILLE - The Clay County Republican Womens Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at the home of Mrs. J. M. May in Hayes - ville. Department pointed out that most adults have had no vac cine, and there is still a dan ger in the county from polio. Every person in the county is urged to take the Savin vaccine on the three upcom ing Sundays, It is given orally, by placing two drops on a cube of sugar, and everyone, regardless of age or sex, can and should take it. There is no bad taste, no needles and no after-effects. It only takes a minute to get the vaccine, and there will be no waiting in line. Sites for the five stations in the county and the dates for the second and third doses will be announced later through all news media serv ing the county. Hudspeth Former Pastor In Clay Dies HAYESVLLLE - The Rev. Mason Hudspeth, former pas tor of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church for three years, died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, in the Baptist Hospital, Winston Salem. He underwent heart surgery early Thurs day morning. He was a native of Gastonia where his body was taken for burial. Memorial services were held at Three Forks Baptist Church in Boone, N. C. Sat urday at 2:00 n.m., where he had been pastor since June. The Rev. Billy Box, a former pastor of Truett Memorial Baptist Church in Clay County had charge of the services. Another memorial service was held at the Mt. Pleasant B Church Sunday morning. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Sarah and Ruth. A new brick veneer par sonage was constructed under his leadership and a dedicat ion service held while he was pastor at Mt. Pleasant Church. He also helped to formulate plans for die newMt. Pleasant Church near Highway No. 64. Construction on this building has been started. President of the Clay County Republican Women's Club, was installed as Area Vice President at the annual Federation of Republican Wo men's Clubs Convention in Charlotte last weekend. Mrs. Ledford replaces Mary Charles Griffin of Asheville. Mrs. Frank Smith of Bun combe County is the new President-elect for the Fed eration and Mrs. James Bai ley, also of Buncombe, was elected recording secretary. Kindergarten In Hayes vill e HAYESVILLE - Mrs. Billy Magness has opened a kinder garten and nursery in her home this week, for pre school children. She lives on the Qualla Road near Hayes - ville. Mrs. Magness is the for mer Miss Trina Maddox of Atlanta, Ga. She is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Maddox. Her father taught at Georgia State College for ap proximately twenty five years. Her mother also taught in Fulton County schools until retirement. Mrs. Magness is a grad uate of Atlanta City School and attended Young Harris College. She has had exper ience in Nursery Schools in Atlanta and worked with child ren in the Decatur Sunday School. She plans to operate on a schedule with activities for children including story tel ling, games, drawing, play periods, rest hour, etc. Lunch and a morning and evening snack will be served.
