These farms diverted a total of 566,458 acres of feed grains and . earned a total of $17,807.00 in diversion and price sipport payments. This means that farmers who participated in the 1963 feed grain program averaged more than $300.00 per farm in diversion and price support payments. Cherokee County had 303 farms to earn a payment in 1963 amounting to $49,038.00. This means that these farm ers averaged $161.00 per farm in diversion and price support payments. The results of this program have been excellent in North Carolina. It has enabled farm ers to work toward the national goal of getting the supply of feed grains more in line with demand. Nationally, the pro gram has been highly success ful in reducing government cost while at the same time increasing the farmers net in come. The payment made to farmers In North Carolina have stimulated the economy and enabled farmers in most cases to show a net income of more dollars than if they had grown the full base. I with 34 years of experience of carrying ? badge and gun, from a private to a Major and Sup er imendant of a large police department in a northern county. This town needs modern police protection from the word go, with a modern well organized Police Department at least with radios in the cars and an officer on duty at the station at all times. I am sure the business men and the citizens in the com munity would support whole heartedly any program to bring this about. 1 know one businessman who hopes you will not let this die as lots of other fruits have died on the vine of progress.
