Guests Admire Early Americana At Konnaheeta Heritage Tour ANDREWS - Members of the Konnaheeta Club sponsor ed a Heritage Tour and Silver Tea on Sunday afternoon at the home of Mrs. C. S. Freel in Valleytown. The guests from Andrews, Fontana Village, Topton, Mur phy and Robbinsville werees corted through the home by members wearing colonial costumes. An impressive col lection of early American was shown in each room and an explanation of its origin and significance given. Punch, sandwiches, nuts, mints and cheese biscuits were served in the dining room in a setting of spring flowers and candle light. Edwin Barlow sangfiveSte phen Foster Folk songs. Mrs. Charles Freel sang four typi cal American folk songs and Miss Doris Raxter rendered a quintet of songs of Senti ment. They were accompan ied by Mrs. Pauline Stalcup, pianist. Mrs. Louise Rogers play ed a music box at intervals and using a map of the local area, she indicated the homes of early settlers. Abram Col lett entered the Cherokee Na tion at Old Valleytown in 1830. Thomas Tathatn erected a home in 1835. William Walker established the Indian Trading Post and Walker Inn in 1839. Mrs. C. S. Freel, Konna heeta president, is the daugh ter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Walker. She is a grad uate of Peace College, Raleigh and did graduate work at Columbia University, N. Y. C. She is the author of the book "Our Heritage", the story of the people of Chero kee County, N. C. from 1540 to 1955. The proceeds of the tea will be given to the Community Building Fund. Andrews Planner To Speakl At Garden Club Meeting ANDREWS - Wayne K. Glad den, Community Planner as signed to Andrews by the Western North Carolina Re gional Planning Commission will be guest speaker for the Valley River Garden Club on April 27 at the home of Mrs. William Walker at 3 p.m. He will discuss planning in general. What it is and what it can do and tell what the Town of Andrews is doing in com munity planning. This meeting was postponed from April 23 to April 27 in order to bring this particular c program to the club members.
