Junaluska Road Dedicated
Despite Rainy Weather
ANDREWS - Despite rainy
weather, the dedication of the
new Junaluska Road on Wed
nesday, Nov. 25, was a great
occasion for Mayor P. B.
Ferebee and many others.
The weather kept Governor
Terry Sanford, Governor -
elect Dan Moore, and other
state officials in Raleigh, who
had planned to fly here, from
attending. But some 50 per
sons, including state and fed
eral representatives, who
came by car, were on hand to

Taylor cut the red ribbon
stretched across the road -
way, marking the official
opening of the new Junaluska
Road.
Running from a few miles
above Andrews, the new road
leads across to Aquone and
the intersection with the
Nantahala - Franklin road
letting outsiders see breat -
taking scenery trhough beauti
ful forests of oak and pine,
hemlock and birch, beech and
rhodendron.
Andrews citizens have vis
ions -of this road's potentia
lity and they take enormous
pride in its resources and
technology. They are indeed
grateful to Mayor P. B. Fere
bee for making this road a
reality.
"This will mean much to '
this section of the state,"
Ferebee told the group. "It
will mean that the people of
Macon County will be able
to transport their timber to
Andrews for the new plant
we are opening soon." Fere
bee also stated that a whole
new scenic and recreational
area has been opened up for
development and enjoyment by
thousands of visitors as well
as local people.

announced to the group that
his agency was already pre
paring to develop camping and
picnic sites along the route.
"We are ready," Vessey
said, "to begin work on a
200 unit camping site just
over Junaluska Gap. This is
a road that will attract the
tourists and will be beautiful
in all seasons."
Congressman Taylor paid
tribute to Ferebee for his
"great perseverance", which
made the road possible.
A special committee of the
Konnaheeta Club, headed by
Mrs. C. S. Freel, president,
greeted the ladies present for
the dedication at the town
hall.
Mr. and Mrs. John Horton
are home from Oregon and
have moved in to Mrs. Flor
ence Young's house on Old
State Road.

due to the illness and death
of Mrs. Bryant's brother,
Cleve Ladd, who died on Sun
day at the District Memorial
Hospital.

Bryant, 10 month old daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. J. W.Bryant,
was declared a winner in the
recent baby contest sponsored
by the Disabled Veterans of
Cobb County, Ga.
The contestants were judged
on beauty, health, and popu
larity.

rated with silver tinsel and
matching crown, dress and
socks also in pink.
