Murphy Home Demonstration Meeting Held MURPHY - The Murphy Home Demonstration Club met Wednesday afternoon,March 17, in the home of Mrs. W.M. Lay. The meeting was opened with Mrs. C. L. A lverson giv ing the devotional. A demonstration on how and when to use credit was given by Miss Thelma Wheeler, Home Economics Agent. Int eresting and helpful facts on using credit was brought out. During the social hour, the hostess served refreshments to the following: Mrs. C. L. Alverson, Mrs. G. A. And erson, Mrs. R, D. Chandler, Mrs. Howard Moody, Mrs. W. P. Odom, Mrs. Dixie Pal mer, Misses Hattie Palmer and Thelma Wheeler and one visitor, Mrs. Archie Jenkins. -M Mrs. S. C. Burgess of Sylva was a visitor in town Saturday. -M Ivie Funeral Home M9rphy'Aadrews-Nay9Svill? Mrs. Mary Hardin ANDREWS " Mrs. Mary E. Hardin, 79, of Andrews, died early Wednesday morning, March 24 in a hospital here after a brief illness. A native of Fannin County, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Jeff and Sarah Robinson McDonald. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Surviving are six sons, Virgil, Vincent, Gurley and Hardy Hardin of Andrews, Ray of Gastonia and Paul of Salem, ohio; a sister, Mrs. Dollie Green of Charlotte; two brothers, Paul of Lenoir and N. B. McDonald of Ashevilles 17 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. Services were held Friday at 2 p.m. lnValleytownBapitsl at 2 p.m. in Valley town Baptist Church. The Rev. W. M. McCully, > the Rev. Ted Ellis and the Rev. Harold Pope officiated and burial was in Valley town Cemetery. Pallbearers were Walter Ensley , Everett Hogan, Walter White, Mark Elliott, Ronnie West and Alder Purser. Ivle Funeral Home was in charge. -M Mrs. Robert S. Bault, Co unselor for the three high schools of Cherokee County and Mrs. Howard Smith, Co unselor of Hayesville High School attended the annual convention of the North Carolina personnel of Guid ance Association in Charlotte last week. Mrs. Bault was recently elected treasurer of die North Carolina Counselors association a division of NCPGA. -M Mrs. Tom Mauney left Sunday for a visit in Asheville. -M Mr. Hans Beer kens is spending a two weeks business trip to California. -M Master Bill McKeever and sister. Ronald Hert Is getting 4> h.s aluminum siding, and the Allen Lovlngoods have just moved Into a two bedroom trailer. -P Work on the community dumping ground Is going for ward. Several of the men have been clearing out on the ground that Mr. Wilbur and Dillard McCombs graciously gave for this project. -P The Methodist Church in our community is going for ward with their new addition and running water -project. -P Twenty rwo people from Peachtree Baptist Church att ended the Youth Night services at Mt. Pisgah. There some participated in a special choir of young people from through out Western North Carolina A ssoclation. -P During the special Youth Week Observance in the Peachtree Baptist Church, thirty-seven young people fil led offices in the church. Danny Lunsford. Marble, was the visiting youth pastor at both services on Sunday. -P The Y.W. A, of Peachtree Baptist Church held its reg ular meeting with Martha Hen drlx on Tuesday night. Nine members and their leader, Mrs. paul Sudderth was pre sent, also a visitor Miss Wanda Cole. -P Miss Judy Rogers repres ented her church in the Bett er Speakers Tournament held In Marble Baptist Church, Monday night. Here she spoke on "What is Worship", and was declared the winner over three other participants. -P Rev. Lester Stowe has been called as pastor to Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. We shall miss both Mr. and Mrs. Stow, but know they will be a blessing in their new church field. Wr,.
