(919) 781-0676 Duke names nonprofit manager Don Wells, executive director of Durham County Habitat for Humanity, has been named statewide project manager for the nonprofit management con tinuing education program at Duke University. He begins work in mid-July. Wells, a former headmaster of Durham Academy, will have the task of expanding the nonprofit program, which now is offered in Durham and the Triad, to six new sites. The expansion will be funded over five years with a $711,000 grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation in Battle Creek, Mich. Service Corps names chief Durham Service Corps has named Clarence J. Elliott Jr., former executive director of a community development corpo ration in San Diego, as its exec utive director. The Durham nonprofit provides young adults with community service jobs and alternative edu cation through tutoring and apprenticeships. The three-year old program is funded by the city and county of Durham, the state, and foundations and cor porations. The organization also generates revenues through fee- for-service contracts. Wake Medical Center eyes foundation The board of Wake Medical Center has asked a committee to proceed with plans for a foundation and to continue working with a South Carolina consultant that had helped Spartanburg Regional Medical Center form a foundation. Working with the consultant. Corporate DevelopMint in Charleston, the committee is expected to have a final recom mendation in several months. The foundation would have a tentative goal of raising $2 mil lion over the next few years. Durham Academy names development head Durham Academy has named Debbie Dibbert, associate direc tor of development for annual giving, as the school's director of development. On July 1, Dibbert will succeed Emily Few, who will move to the part-time position of director of develop ment for the Hill Learning Development Center.
