Easter Shoes Wesleyan Guild Has April Meeting The Wesleyan Service Guild of First Methodist Church held its April meeting Monday evening at the Methodist parsonage, home of Rev. and Mrs. Ivon L. Rob erts, with Mrs. Charles C. Clon- inger, Jr., and Mrs. Dick Jones, hostesses. Arrangements of gladioli and spring greenery decorated the living room and the den, and at the conclusion of the meeting salad course with coffee was serv ed. Miss Mae Tucker presented the devotional, a series of steropti can slides depicting the last week of Christ’s life on earth, the cru cifixion, the resurrection, and the transfiguration. Miss Ann Ken drick was in charge of the pro gram, and presented Mrs. Tom McConnell, who gave an inspiring address on the Christian use of time. Miss Doris Clark, Guild president, conducted the business session, and Mrs. J. P. Smith, chairman of the 1950 nominating committee, presented the com mittee’s slate of officers for the new year. The new officers elect ed by acclimation, will be in stalled at the general meeting of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service in May. Special guests at the meeting were Rev. Ivon L. Roberts, pas tor of the church, Mrs. Frank L. Rankin, president'of the Woman’s Society, and Mrs. Harold Wil liams of Memphis, Tennessee, a former Guild member. The host esses were assisted in entertain ing and serving by Mrs. Roberts, the lady of the parsonage, and her daughter, Miss Norma Rob erts. Ramseys Entertain Miss Frances Hollar, Mr. Tommy Whiteside Miss Frances Hollar and Tom my Whiteside, whose marriage will be an event of Easter Sun day, were honored Wednesday eveidiig by the latter’s sister, Mrs. Will Ramsey and Mr. Ram sey of Lincolnton, who entertain ed at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Whiteside on the Stanley road with a buffet supper. Arrangements of yellow jon quils and spring greenery were used throughout the home, and in the dining room the table was overlaid with a handsome lace cloth and centered with a bowl of the same flowers. Upon arrival the bride-elect was presented a shoulder bouquet of white baby orchids, and later in the evening she received gift of silver in her wedding pat tern. ’’Bride" was played dur ing the evening, and prizes awarded the winners. Guests included Miss Hollar, Mr. Whiteside, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hollar, parents of the bride-elect, Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Whiteside, parents of the bride groom-elect, Mr. and Mrs. David Robinson, Misses Barbara and Glenda Hollar, and Gwyn Hollar, all of Mount Holly, and Miss Rita Ramsey and Randy Ramsey of Lincolnton. ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED Mr. and Mrs. Garrie Lee Kendrick of Mount Holly an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Anne, to Mr. John W. Brinkley of Fayetteville, soh of Mrs. James Clyde Brink- ley of Valdese and the late Mr. Brinkley. The date for the wedding will be announced later. New Society Circle Ad(Jed By Methodists The Woman’s Society of Christ ian Service of First Methodist Church has added another circle to the group which makes, up the society membership, according to an announcement by the presi dent, Mrs. Frank L. Rankin. 'The circle formerly known as No. 3 divided its membership last week, making an additional organiza tion within the society. During the last year, also, a Home Cir cle was organized, consisting of women of the church. who for some reason may not able to attend the circle meetings, or un der some circumstance find it im possible to maintain membership in any of the other circles. Mem bers of the Home Circle enjoy all the rights and privileges of mem bership in the Woman’s Society, but do not regularly attend meet ings. Ten members have been en- i^Ued in this circle. At the pres ent time the membership of the Society, which includes four cir cles, the Home Circle and the Wesleyaii Service Giuld, is 115, Mrs. Rankin stated. Rankins ^ept. W.S.C.S To Gather For General Meetnig There will be a general meet ing of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service of the Meth* odist Church next Wednesday af ternoon at the church. The meet ing is scheduled for 3:30 p. and this is the regular monthly meeting. Dr. W. O. Goode, a former pas tor at the Methodist church here, will be the principal speaker. Mrs. Carl Stroupe has charge of the program and was fortunate in securing Dr. Goode for this meet ing. Dr. Goode is now retired and m^es his home in Charlotte. Miss Spratt Hostess To Bridge Club Group Miss Elizabeth Spratt was host ess to member of her bridge club last Saturday night at her home. She was assisted by her sister, Mrs. Clifton Beatty, in serving a dessert course with coffee. After the progressions were fin ished, the scores were added and high score prize was awarded to Mrs. Flynn Warren with low score going to Miss Mary Jo Rhyne. The other club members play ing were Mrs. C. S. Clegg, Mrs. Leo Fuller, Mrs. James Daven port, Mrs. Adrian Beatty, and Miss Bain Henderson. Luncheon In Stanley Fetes Miss Underwood Mrs. James Calieando of Stan ley entertained on Saturday at a luncheon in her home, honori^ Miss Mary Ellen Underwood, whose wedding to James William Reeves will take place on April 16th. Arrangements of spring flowers and candles were us^ in the liv ing and dining rooms. Bridal place cards marked the places for the guests and a miniature bride marked the bride-elect’s place. Covers were laid for Miss Un derwood, Mrs. Webb Martin, Mrs. Tyler B. Huneycutt, Mrs. James Rhyne, and Mrs. David Rhyne, all of Stanley. TO BE HERE Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Rhyne of Charleston, S. C. will spend the coming weekend with relatives here. Mrs. Rhyne will remain for a week’s visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Fuller. DEATH OCCURS TUESDAY Mount Holly friends will re gret to learn of the passing of R. Frank Smith, whose death oc curred Tuesday at his home in Gastonia. Mr. Smith, a former resident of Mount Holly, was a brother of Mrs. E. E. Thompson. TO VIRGINIA Mr. and Mrs. W. R. White and sons. Missionary Union To Meet Thursday The Women’s Missionary Union of the First Baptist church will meet on Thursday, April. 13th, at 7:30 p. m. in the Church basement The Bible topic will be I John 1:1-4; 2:1-14. The missiemary to pic is: “Presses At Work For God." The program is to be given by the Ruby Daniel Circle and the offering is to be a co-operative program. The Community Mis sions for the month will be to visit the Coimty Home. Church decorations are to be done by the Earle Hester and refreshments are to be ser-' ved by the Sallie Ware Circle. WILLING WORKERS MEET The Willing Workers of the Methodist Church will meet on Friday, April 14. instead of Tues day, the 11th, as originally plan ned. This will be a covered dish supper at the church. Members are asked to bring their husbands and guests. The supper will begin at 7:30 p. m. Any member of the church who wishes to come is invited to bring a covered dish and attend the supper.
