w omen’s Activities NANCY G. BARRETT, SOCIAL EDITOR SUNDAY EVENING GUEST Leon Moore, a member of the faculty of Mayodan High School near Reidsville was the Sunday evening guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Smith. Service Guild Has Social At phurch Mrs. Melvin Fortner and Miss Helen Baxley were hostesses to members of the Wesleyan Service Guild at their No' ember meeting, which followed the Auxiliary meeting of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service held Monday evening at the Methodist Church. The meeting took place in the Fellowship room of the educa tional building. Miss Doris Clark, Guild presi dent, conducted a session of busi ness matters, and following this there was a social hour, at which the hostesses served a tempting salad course with accessories and coffee. Woman’s Club Remodels Building Mrs. Annie Bee Sigmon, presi dent of the Adrian-Madora Wom an’s Club, announced this week that the club has been remodeled and redecorated in recent weeks. The building has an added attrac tiveness following the remodel ing, and |the members of the group are proud of the new ap pearance. The Adrian - M a d o r a Woman’s Club ^umbers among it’s members ladies of the Adiran and Madora Villages, and the members have an outstanding record in communitx work. More than forty ladies now belong to the organization. A highlight of the activities undertaken by the club during the past year was a trip to Myrtle Beach, S. They are occupying an apartment in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Spittle on the Belmont Road. Mrs. Anderson is the former Miss Margaret Paschal, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Paschal. VISIT IN BENFIELD HOME Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Fisher and daughter' of Gastonia were Sun day visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Benfield. Rev. And Mrs. Roberts Honor Church Board The Rev. and Mrs. Ivon L. Roberts entertained at dinner Monday evening at their home, the Methodist parsonage, having as guests members of the Board of Stewards of the Methodist Church. Arrangements of yellow and bronze chrysanthemums adorned the living room and the music room, and in the dining room the table was spread with imported linen and centered with, a lovely arangement of yellow chrysanthe mums and gladioli. Following dinner the regular monthly meeting of the Board was held, with Joyce Clark, chairman, conducting the business session. Eighteen Stewards were pres ent to enjoy the hospitality. George H. Moore and niece. Miss Josephine Moore of Char lotte spent the weekend here with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Moore. VISITS SISTER Mrs. Jack Summey and son, Terry have been visiting the former’s sister, Mrs. Lee Mercer, Mr. Mercer and son, Larry in Hamlet, N. C. They returned Wedne^ay. DINNER GUESTS FRIDAY EVENING Mr. and Mrs. Narvel J. Craw ford of Asheville were Friday din ner guests of the former’s sister, Mrs. E. L. McCorkle and Mr. Me- Corkle. The Crawfords were en route to Durham to attend the Homecoming festivities and the Duke-Ga. Tech game at Duke University, where their son, Narvel Crawford, Jr. is a member of the junior class. DINNER GUESTS Mr. and Mrs. Nim Harris and children of Burlington were Fri day night dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Harris. Wendy's Grill Proves Popular To Public Wendy’s Grill is located on Highway No. 16 one mile from Riverbend Steam Plant. It is operated by Mrs. R. H. (Wendy) Rhyne, Mrs. Dollie Turner and Mrs. Lewis Howard. They specialize in plate lunches also sandwiches of any kind. Wendy’s Grill invites all of their friends and those wanting good food to stop by with us. A new addition, just completed, and with brajid new furnishings in the dining room equips Wendy's Grill to take care of private parties. The Grill has been opened about three months. ENGAGED Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Beach of Mount Holly announce the en gagement of their daughter, Mel- dona, to Roy Broome, son of Mr.- and Mrs. H. A. Broome of Gas tonia. The wedding will take place November 25th. Abernathy Home Is Scene Of Lovely Party A delightful social event of the past week was the dessert bridge given by Mrs. F. H. Abernathy, Jr. and Mrs. Barbara Hovis, who entertained Friday evening at the Abernathy home on West Glen dale Avenue. Tables were set up for play amid a colorful profusion of fall flowers. The entrance hall and the living room were decorated with arrangements of roses and yellow chrysanthemums, and in the din ing room the table was centered with a bowl of red roses. Here also the buffet was graced with a massive arrangement of giant white chrysanthemums. Centering each individual table was a mini ature frosted pumpkin filled with dainty baby chrysanthemums and maline, this bearing the table number. The fall theme was also followed in the tallies: Following the dessert course several progressions of bridge were enjoyed, and during the game the hostesses, who were as sisted in entertaining by Mrs: Joe Check, served cokes and mixed nuts. After scores were • tallied Mrs. Clyde Loftin was announced as the winner of high score award, with second high going to Mrs. Jeffre Hart. Mrs. Carl Sherrill of Belmont claimed the floating prize, and low score prize was presented’to Miss Ruth Craig. Mrs. Paul Anderson, who has re cently arrived in Mount Holly to make her home, was remembered with a gift. Those playing were I^Irs. S. C, H. G. Harris spent the weekend with relatives in Belton, S. C. and atended the football game at Clerpson. BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Jones announce the birth of a daugh ter, Sarah Mae, Nov. 1 at Prseby- terian Hospital, Charlotte. The Jonses have a young son, Ken neth, Jr. Mrs. Jones and the in fant daughter have returned to their home on Summit Avenue. IN HOSPITAL Mrs. E. K. Black is a patient at Mercy Hospital, Charlotte, where she is receiving treatment. Open Hpuse Enjoyed At School Thursday Open House was held at the Mount Holly Schools last night for the second successive year with faculty of the school and members of the Parent-Teachers Association playing host to an anticipated 1000.or more guests: Last year the Open House, at which each class gave special de monstrations, was a gerat success an dthe arent-Teachers Associa tion and the schools anticipated a greater program this year. Each classroom in the schools prepared a special program for the event this year with several giving demonstration classes in their special subjects while others prepared different demonstrations and special programs. SONS OF HENRY H. RHYNE HONORED Gainesville, Ga,, November 1— Henry H. Rhyne, Jr., and George N. Rhyne, sons of Mr. Henry H. Rhyne, Mt. Holly, North Carolina, have been named as Platoon Ser geant and Corporal respectively, in the Junior unit of Riverside Military Academy of this city and Hollywood, Florida. They have received this recognition on the basis of their records according to special orders jiuit published by this separate department of River side Military Academy. The Junior Unit consists of approxi mately 100 Cadets of the entire Cadet Corps of some 500 boys from 33 states and territories and 15 foreign countries.
