THURSDAY, JULY 1, 1937 No one knows now whether Person County will remain in the dry column or will move j into the wet column. As things now stand, Person County has ] voted dry. The majority was 22 votes and the “wets” do not believe that this majority is I enough for the “drys” to stand upon until the votes are re counted. The term wet is being used to apply to those who are in favor of control stores and the term dry applies to those who are against the stores. A recount has been demanded and this demand will be grant ed by the board of elections. Whether the result will remain the same will be determined at this recount. There seems to be more in terest in the result of the elec tion now than there was in the election. Many people who had said little about it before the 29th. are now saying plenty. We have an idea that this election is not over, but whether the “drys” will be on top when everything is over or ; not cannot be accurately predict ed. Saturday, July 3rd., has been designated as Safety Parade Pay and Trade With Sajety ! Day in Roxboro. Captain Jim | Lynch and his Magic Safety car will be in Roxboro and a safe ty demonstration will be given. There will also be a big safety parade and the merchants of Boxboro will have hundreds of bargains for the large crowd of shoppers who are expected here. Safety Parade Day has been a big occasion in many cities in the United States. Thousands- - of people have gathered to see the parade and now Roxboro , > out the extra add ed attraction of a big bargain day. \ The Chamber of Commerce is 1 behind the movement ahd 1 ariany “mferenants are Tending' their cooperation one hundred per ceflt. f people of this territory " are invited to come to Roxboro Saturday and see the parade I and visit the stores. You are in ! for a real treat in many ways. This paper joins with scores of Roxboro people in demand | ing that the police department of this city make every effort to discover the cause of the death of about ten dogs in Rox boro on Wednesday and to find out if possible who was res ponsible for this. It is thought that poison was scattered over the entire section of Roxboro. It is known that the dogs ate something j that caused their death. Val uable dogs are now dead. Dogs that were pets are dead - But - a child might have picked up the food that the poison was on ! and children might be dead ! today as a result. This is the second time that • this has happened in Roxboro 1 in. the last six months. It’s a ! very dangerous happening and it’s up to the police force of ! this city to start to work. If any 1 person put out as much poison | as was evidently put out there ’ must be some evidence left be ! hind and that evidence should ! be sifted down. I | Hail, the farmer’s fear at this i time of the year visited Person r County Wednesday. It was one of the hardest hail storms for thh season that is remembered. Some places were hard hit and as usual the storm cut a path across one section of the coun ty. It is too late to re-plant and farmers who were hit can only look at the damage, unless they Jbad insurance.
